COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2008 Re-rate, Jan 28, 2007: Draft at <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/chicag Map Room. Bright brass color with a light head. Crispy malt smell. Taste shows thick, syrupy tripel malts. Lots of Belgian sugar, with only mild bitterness. Hews very close to style, which is nice in its own right, I guess.

Original Rating: Feb. 7, 2005: Corked bottle. Big foaminess on pour. Color is a dark straw, if such a description is possible. A bit of banana ester that threatens to overwhlem the rest of the taste. Then I get a touch zinfandel wine for some reason. Very interesting.

Color amarillo, con espuma blanca de bastante retención. Nunca he visto una cerveza con tanta carbonatación, y se disfruta tanto visualmente como saboreándola. Olor y sabores a frutas, trigo, levadura y sobretodo diría que plátano. Final amargo. Voy a repetir muuucho de esta cerveza.

Pint from tap at Peters (Valladolid). Delicate but complex beer, with a mix of wheat, oat and barley that is appreciated. Yeasty and slightly hoppy

Beautiful Belgium Yeast taste. Notes of banana. Amazing large and stable head. Pour carefully as it heads up incredibly and will easily overflow. Effervescent. Also it's 8.4% alcohol so you can get pretty trashed on it if you're not careful. However the alcohol taste is hidden well. Also high on the calories 252. But a truly awesome beer. My favorite tripel so far ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma: spicy, malty, yeast, reins. Big white head, clear yellow color, oily texture. Taste: malty, fruity, yeast, very small bitterness, slight alcohol in the taste. Medium to full body. One good tripel.

Extremely good beer, and not trappist!!! Nice golden colour, nice hay aroma and taste! So grainy and pure and bio! So fresh and tasty, combines with cheese, fruits, meat, salmon! Nice! Not so boozy, but balanced. It is smooth and drinkable! As it has to be, when you go to monastery (not to get drunk and fall down in the church). Good price and nice tulip glass, when hit - its singing like a church bell! For me is good for age in dark room/box.

Another product of a happy baseball weekend in Chi-Town, this .75 liter bottle came home with me. I have been anxious to try Karmeliet since it is apparently held in high regard. Tilting it into a tulip glass I see a bright straw-colored body accompanied by a plentiful top of white foam. The head is replenished by a heroic amount of bubble action. Taking a smell there is cane sugar, yellow fruit and a yeast overtone. The payoff now, a sip. Yes, quite nice. It delivers peach, baked bread, a touch of clove and a surprising alcohol warming. While I like quads and dubbels generally more, this is top level stuff.
