3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On draft at the brewery’s taproom. I am just starting to really be into smoked beers. I used to think it was weird to taste smoke, now I love it. This beer has a perfect balance between the base beer and the smoke aspect. Not too smokey, just right. I didn’t get a whole lot of smoke in the smell but the smoke sort of builds on the palate as you slowly kill the pint. I really enjoyed this beer.
5 week old pint can > pilsner glass
Beer now named Grill Friend Cherry Smoked Amber
A: Pours fairly clear dull orange brown with a small beige head that quickly fell to film. A few ugly clumps of sediment.
S: Lots of caramel or toffee with some sweet smoke. Maybe a leafy hop note.
T: Fruity hops hit first with tart cherry joined by light caramel sweetness. Smoke is present but very subtle. Sweet and sour but not very bitter.
M: Medium to thin and almost flat with a wet, sticky finish.
O: Pretty good, certainly inoffensive, many may say forgettable, but tasty and worth a try if you like smoked beers. HighlanderOne (1396) - York, SC via NJ, South Carolina, USA - AUG 15, 2016
On tap at Hickory Tavern Burnt malt aroma. Opaque brown with barely a head. Smoked flavor is not too intense and blends well with the malt. Also dry cocoa and caramel flavors. Flavors carry nicely into aftertaste. Good stuff. monk191 (2022) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 1, 2015
A nice smoked beer. Pours a cloudy red. Smells of smokiness. Taste is more basic Amber with a hint of tobacco and smokiness. Had on tap at the Lighthouse Beer and Wine Festival in Wilminton, NC. islay (3125) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 27, 2015
Approximately 4.5 oz. of a 6 oz. pour, on tap at the brewery’s taproom in Charlotte, North Carolina. Consumed on 9-24-15. Pours a hazy, murky, dark amber with a small amount of beige head. Liquid looks interesting. Malty, lightly smoky aroma. Subtle and quite pleasant smell. Malted milk ball scent. Nice, lightly smoky, lightly malty-sweet taste with just a touch of tartness. A touch of Band-Aid flavor, which is not ideal. Light to medium body. Unmemorable but acceptable palate. A bit too aqueous. A pleasant enough beer but a forgettable one. A smoked beer for people who don’t like smoked beers. I, however, do like smoked beers. Cybercat (6346) - Georgia, USA - JUN 10, 2015
Pours clear coppery-red with a fairly thick buff head. Malty aroma has a smoky, almost BBQ, overtone plus yeasty, oat and wheat hints. Flavor rolls wheat, oat, smoky malt, and subtle fruity tones across the tongue, while bits of yeast and hops pop up here and there. Mouthfeel has good body if not a lot of fizz. Smokin’!

Draft - Sweet bacon like smoke with caramel. Cloudy copper with almost no head. Smoke, vegetal notes, caramel and a dry finish. HourGlass13 (1101) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 18, 2015
Pours a murky dark brown with a small off white head. Aroma is fairly smokey, but not overpowering. Taste is light and clean, with a hint of that nuttiness coming through along with the smoke. A very good smoked beer. DedicatedToFun (4003) - Santa Monica, California, USA - JAN 2, 2015
