2/21/15. Sampled during RBWG 2015. Amber pour with a small khaki head. Light booze in the aroma, toffee, caramel, some dark fruits, a wisp of earthiness. Malty flavor, a touch of alcohol again, toffee, caramel, dark fruits, a hint at a smokiness. Not bad. jackl (8071) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 24, 2015
Bottle @ RBWG on the Brewbus. Cheers to whoever shared this! Rich reddish amber pour with a tight head. Toasty rich malts steeped in caramel. Some mellow grape skin and dark fruits. Rich and hot. Sweet cereal. Oily, substantial stuff. A good sipper. Theydon_Bois (19510) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAY 10, 2015
Bottle during RBWG Booze Buse 20/02/15 thanks to whomever supplied this juan.
Chestnut brown with a moderate off white covering.
Nose is nutty, toffee, spice, rich malt, light vanilla.
Taste comprises toffee, sweet candified licks, malt base, biscuit.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Ok for style, masks ABV but also lacks depth when you consider it’s a double digit number! UrbanCaveman (193) - Ohio, USA - MAR 20, 2015
12 oz bottle, poured into a snifter at ~40 degrees F.
Appearance: Pours a gorgeous clear garnet brown, much like a deep mahogany wood. Forms a very pale off-white head, which dissipates swiftly into a ring with a couple cap islands.
Smell: Thick caramel sweetness, sprinkled with toffee and poured over a loaf of dark bread beside a bowl of black cherries.
Taste: That is decadent. The caramel-toffee swirl from the nose is present, but muted beneath a mix of pumpernickel-esque bread and earthy, wooden peat. An array of dark fruit manifests as the beer moves along the palate, with black cherry, raisin, and prune all making cameo appearances. The ABV makes itself known only at the finish, with a little heat in the swallow and aftertaste, alongside a slurry of caramel, toffee, and peat.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, and on the thicker side of medium-bodied, with decent carbonation.
Overall: This wee heavy can stand with some of the best. Don’t let the ABV fool you, this one is not barrel-aged - it just has all the kick of a BA wee heavy, and a flavor depth and complexity that is up there near Skull Splitter. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAR 6, 2015
12oz bottle pours with a clear copper body that supports a thin off white head. The aroma offers up modest notes of brown sugar and raisiny dates. The taste delivers slick sweet malts, brown sugar, figs and sweet raisins. It does pull up mild earthy, pumpernickel and mineral notes midway and into the finish. Well hidden abv.
