2/05/2014: Triple Digit Coconut Chickow... I likie Chickow and love coconut, but I was not a huge fan of this beer. The coconut does come through in both the aroma and flavor, but the beer is too sweet. All of the nice roasty, nutty characteristics of the base beer are drown out by the sweetness. There is also a strange fruitiness (papaya or pineapple) that has been introduced that doesn’t fit at all. I wonder if they used sweetened coconut or something when brewing this which has caused the problem. Toasted raw/plain coconut would have been way better. To be honest, Chickow is great as it is and I’ve only had 1 or maybe 2 treatments of it that I thought were as good or better than the original; why mess with a good thing?! Draught (sample) at Listermann Tap Room in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #6 for this beer.

Sampled at GABF 2017 with Paul and Larry; tried the coconut variant after the "turtle" hazelnut treated version. Pours a deep black body with thin ring of lace. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with notes of sugar, melted chocolate brownie, coconut, vanilla and light alcohol. Nice, but a touch too sweet.

Sample at J Bar as part of Ohio Brew Week on 07/22/2017. Hazy brown color with a medium thick tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lacing. Roasted malt, coconut and chocolate aroma. Full-bodied with flavors of toasted coconut, chocolate malt and hazelnut. The finish is roasty with a coconut and malt aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear copper/brown pour with a thick beige head. Nose of malt, berry and caramel. Malty flavor with berry notes and slight coconut and hazelnut before a sweet and slightly roasty finish. Not much coconut. Past its prime.

Bottle courtesy of the Cleveland crew. Pours a nice Cleveland Brown with an off-white head. Nose is big coconut, some chocolate, some cocoa, some earth, and some almost brown sugar. Flavor is similar with cocoa and coconut overtones. We had several Chickows that night and this one was my favorite.

Bomber - brown pour with ample off white head. Nose of hazelnuts and toasted coconut abound. Sticky sweet taste with plenty of the same. Slight bitterness on the finish typical of stronger brown ales. Hefty on the palate. Enjoyed this.

Draft pour during Ohio Brew Week. Pours a dark brown with a ring of beige foam. The aroma has huge coconut influence. Major tropical fruit sweetness with some milk chocolate. Proprietor’s who? Way better. I nearly came when I sipped this beer. So fucking good!

Draft at the taproom for Chickow! day. Looks like chickow... slightly hazy brown with a small light tan head. Aroma is sweet coconut and some fruits... with the slight nuttiness there also. Flavor is super sweet, but the coconut really cuts through it all and shines. The nuttiness works well in conjunction with this. Very nice variant.
