RATINGS: 54   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.27/5   SEASONAL: Autumn   ABV: -
Old time brewers in Germany made a malty, high gravity beer in March (Maerzen) which they consumed with great ceremony in the fall. The coincidence of a royal betrothal in the autumn of 1810 gave Bavarian beer lovers ample justification for the two-week long bash known as Oktoberfest.

Draft in New Hope. Not a bad beer by any standards but I think most brewers try to copy somebody else’s Oktoberfests because this tastes like everyone elses Oktoberfest. Decent aroma and body but a little odd mouthfeel. Pretty smooth.

A: Clear amber body, thin head.

S: Light aroma, fruity and caramel malts.

T: Sweet caramel malts, fruity esters, bold flavor and balanced.

M: Medium body with medium carbonation.

O: Solid oktoberfest beer, a notch above Sam Adams.

A spicy malt and pumpkin taste. Good reddish brown color. Smell and taste were a bit tangy and metallic. Reminded me of blue moon pumpkin.

Amber color with heavy foam. Aroma is typical Marzen with plenty of maltiness. Taste is pretty good for an Oktoberfest, but not exceptional.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2003 Good maltey beer. Clean. No off notes in aroma. Munich malty flavor. Low hops. Very clear. Enjoyable. Reminded me of some of the best from Munich.

By far the best 'fest beer I have had. A very malty blend that just soothes the soul as well as the palate. This beer lacked the often sloppy sweetness that you find in this style. It had a little sweet but with a purpose. I enjoyed this beer immensely.

Draft at the Leigh Valley Brewfest in Easton, Pa. From the New Hope, Pa location. Hey it’s an Octoberfest Wohoo. What ever. Boring beer. Tasted and looked like just about any othe OFest beer.

Tap at the brewery. Amber color with a thin white head. Completely lacking of aroma. Another choppy beer that has flavors but they don’t flow together well. Taste is wet hair, bitter hop oils, and white bread. Moderately thin palate.

On tap at KSBF ’08. Clear amber with a big foamy head. Spicy noble hops were very present in both the nose and flavor. Some bready malt present as well. Decent but a good example why more hops aren’t always needed.

Draft at the Philly location: pours a dark amber with a white foamy head, aroma of spices, taste is malty with a little spice. Not bad.
