Tap at princeton. Poured gold with white head. Aroma of meat. Strong meaty/smoked flavor from start to finish. Good smoke.
On tap at the Brew Pub, Philadelphia 18-11-08. Pours deep amber/dark copper in colour with a white head. There is a slight metallic edge to this beer but with some good spicy sausageyness as well, a bit of Bratwurst leaps out every now and again. Whilst this beer seems to the lack the depth and complexity of some other smoked in particular some of the best German examples its still a very drinkable beer with nice smokey woodiness, good meaty flavours. Clear copper color, tan head. Intensely smoked nose, very forward and robust - smoked honey, toast, bread, crackers, a bit of sweet smoked walnut wood... intense and exciting aroma. Heavy smoke flavor: resinous, oily, charred grains and dry wood all over this thing. Very similar to a Schlenkerla clone, that’s what it brings to mind. G.A.B.F. 2008: Pours a copper color with a creamy tan head. Smoky!! Finally, an American interpretation that’s smoky! Meaty aroma, bacon, campfire and lots of earth. Creamy body with a nice smoky flavor. Maple bacon, hearty bready malts, campfire earthiness. Finishes with a nice balancing dryness. Smoky, and tasty! Nice!

@Philly-on tap-pours a thin rich light tan head with amber/brown color. Aroma is spices-clove and smoke that blends nicely, medium malt-sweet. Taste is spices-clove and lots of smoke-fish/campfire that blends nicely, medium malt-sweet. Dry finish. Not my taste but nicely done. Tap at Triumph Phillly. Pours a nice amber woody brown with a nice tight thin head. Aroma is nice nutty woody smoke with lots of meats, but slightly skewed towards campfire and smpoked salmon and a nice toffee caramel sweetness- smokiness isnt quite as smooth or refined as Heller Trum. Poured a dark amber color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malts, caramel, wood, and a bit of nuts. on tap in Princeton. Clear deep amber pour, with a medium off white head. Alot of smoked malt in the aroma- smoked ribs, fire, wood, caramel, and toasted malts. Taste is heavily smoked malts and wood, balanced incredibly well by caramel and toasted malts. The smoked malts are pretty intense- maybe a notch below the Aecht beers, but still very assertive. Body is medium. Finishes with lingering notes of smoked meat and sweet caramel. Another masterpiece from Tom.
