2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A surprisingly light dark beer.
Very nice appearance, smooth, nice aroma.
Very light head.
I had it on tap. It pours dark brown with a tan head and some lacing. The aroma is roasty and bread. The taste is roasty, some coffee, toast, and some chocolate. It starts off with some carbonation and finishes smooth. This is pretty good. UDBeernut (2883) - Saint Johns, Florida, USA - APR 25, 2012
Poured in philadelphia location. Dark amber off white head ok retention. Lacing rings. Light roasty nose. Light bodied and crisp. Light roast in mouth compliments the flower finish. JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 14, 2009
Darker brown with a bready, roasty aroma. Flavor is a bit bland with some bread and medium-bodied lager taste. OK, but Triumph should improve this one. puzzl (3264) - New York, New York, USA - MAR 23, 2009
Tap at Philly. Filtered black pour with a mild head. Smells like big puffy pretzels, for real. Maybe like dry pretzels too. Vegetal and toast flavor, corn chips and cactus are apparent. Okay-ish, not terribly exciting. I’d like more roast flavor. User37895 (3085) - - MAR 20, 2009
On draft at the Philly location. The pour was dark black in color, decent tan colored head that yielded good lacing. The aroma was chocolate and licorice, some metallic grassy notes. The flavor was chocolate, roast, licorice, and grassy hops. This was semi-dry with a full body, good attenuation. There was an odd metallic note under it all, but if you like lager, this was decent.

Philadelphia location. Deep black beer with a creamy tan head. Aroma is toasty and herbal initially with a fairly metallic roastiness that I can’t say I care for. There is also a touch of vegetal DMS through the middle. Light roastiness with a touch of cocoa on the back. It finishes metallic and soapy. Meh… these guys can definitely do better than this. blipp (9929) - La Mesa, California, USA - MAR 10, 2009
Draft at the brewpub. Pours deep brown with a thin beige head. Light roasted aroma with light sweet notes. The flavor is on the bland side, with roast, and a touch of sweetness. Very low bitterness. Not bad. Hawksfan17 (890) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - APR 12, 2008
The malty beer pours dark brown. I think this delivered nicely but that might just be because I enjoy Schwarzbier. Tastes like a lager but a little heavier and maltier. Very earthy beer with a nice smooth slightly hopped finish. jcwattsrugger (12559) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - APR 10, 2008
@Philly-on tap-pours a retaining tan head with some lacing. Color is mahogany. Aroma is dark malt-peat, slight sweetness, some Irish Red/Brown Ale metallic, musty. Taste is dark malt-peat/some caramel/chocolate, secondary dry/slightly earthy bitter hops. OK effervescence, mush of it on the tip of the tongue then soft carbonation.
