Mild smokiness, sweet malt in the aroma. Scorched malt dominates midway through with a sweet almost raisony finish. How is this 9.5%?
On cask at the brewpub in Princeton. Pours a clear mahogany with a creamy off white head. Flavors of vinyl and some butterscotch. Boozy finish. lownote (585) - Austin, Alabama, USA - NOV 2, 2015
Pours a muddyish brown. Ring of head. Light aroma. Really classic scotch flavor, but it’s a little light bodied. It’s all right... I like scotch ales, but this isn’t my favorite. scarletfire65 (1507) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 21, 2012
Sample at the brewpub. Advertised as a cask pour, but came out ice cold. Good smoke in the nose and taste. Plenty of dried fruit nuances, and also oaky flavors. Truly reminded me of scotch whiskey. The best offering of the 7 I had there. decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - JUN 13, 2009
Deep amber pour with creamy white head and lace. Medium malt and abv on the nose. Sweet maltiness, light abv, a decent building bitter finish. Slightly thin but a very nice beer overall.

Tap at the Princeton brewpub. Clear copper color with a nice beige head. Aroma of scotch (whiskey), caramel malt, and mild hops. Flavor was more of the same, with the scotch really standing out even though I know scotch whiskey and scotch ales are not supposed to be similar. Must be the peat smoked malt. Body medium. imadeadguy (378) - back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA - MAR 7, 2009
Tap at Philly. Served into a snifter. Pour is dark brown/purple with a two finger caramel colored head. Aromas of piney hops, caramel, sweet fruits, and some candy. Flavor is well balanced with hops up front, sweet fruits, warming alcohol, and nice vanilla in the finish. Outstanding brew with the 9.5% hidden very well. adrian910ss (2595) - Doylestown, PA, USA - FEB 25, 2008
On draft at the Chestnut Street location. Pours a dark semi clear coppery amber with a medium beige head. Aroma of plastic(contact paper), candied malt and dark fruit. taste of candied malt, caramel, papaya and dark fruit. craftbeerdesign (2254) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 25, 2008
draft at the Philly location on 1/19/08. pours a deep red with a bit of head. nice malty presence with a bit of an alcohol warmth... overall very nice body over the palate and smooth finish. some caramel as well... would order again for sure. Braudog (6836) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - NOV 12, 2007
Draft pint at the Philadelphia brewpub. Red-tinged brown with a fizzle of head retention. Very sugary aroma. Likewise, rich roasty sugars come out in the drink. Almost too sweet. (#3184, 11/8/2007)
