COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

Served from a bottle. Pours a dark brown, cola like color, with a medium head that dissipated fairly quickly. Got a little roasted malt smell with a slight hoppy aroma. Nothing over powering or dominating. It had a thinner mouth feel than I expected and more hop flavor than I expected. I like the roasted malt flavor but thought there was a slight imbalance with the hop. It was o.k. but not what I was looking for in a porter.

BB backlog, Bottle, pours black with light carbonation and a smaller head that didn’t stick. Notes of coffee, chocolate, smokey malt, and light pine from the chinook hops. Really average porter.

Draft at the brewery. Very dark brown. Creamy texture. Medium bodied. Nice hints of chocolate with caramel and biscuit. Bitter notes with some hop finish. Roasted malt background. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a semi-transparent cola brown color with a medium white head. Not much of an aroma. taste is mostly light coffee. Very smooth with a little hop bite that isn’t too harsh nor bitter. Flavor lingers a bit. A little thin for a porter but it was flavorful enough to be enjoyable without being overpowering. Not bad but too much on the light side.

Quick 6 West York. Favorite seasonal beer. Dark, smooth. Not a hop lover but the bitter finish in this one feels right.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Opaque, deep dark brown with a 2-finger khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of cola, chocolate, nuts, raisins, pine and toffee. Taste of chocolate, pine, nuts, roasted coffee, roasted malt, lemon/orange citrus and toffee. Medium/light body and medium/high carbonation. Rather hoppy for a porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Expectation: the brewer baffles me for unknown reasons and I tend to assume I’ve already had a ton of there stuff and in reality, I’ve only had three others. The high rating lead me to think this will be a good experience especially since I like the style.
Hardware: 12oz bottle (bottled on 8/21/13) into Le Guinness 2010
Nose: can’t really penetrate the huge head that required I use two glasses. I recall strong coffee notes but now I just get that over carbonated smell.
Sip: definitely strong roast and coffee notes.Slight lactose maybe or perhaps chocolate.
Taste: all kinds of bitterness
Misc: the second I heard a pop when I took the top off, I thought there would be a mess, but no mess except the beer itself. I think there is something wrong in here - it’s way too foamy for a porter and the smell is odd.
Conclusion: I will need to try this again from a different source.
PS: as it warmed it got better, but I still suspect a bad bottle or bad storing conditions from the store. I find it least likely that this is a bad beer.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown with orangish hues in the light and a thin creamy light brown head. Aroma is nutty, toffee, slight roastiness. Flavor is a nutty sweetness, with a light burnt roasty bitterness. Medium in body and rather drinkable. Lingering roasty bitterness. Very tasty.

Bottle. Hazy Brown Americano pour. Coffee, wood, cola, spice, raisin, caramel, pine. Hoppy and good carbonation that makes this porter east to drink. Caramel, coffee and pine throughout. Light sweet finish
