Pours an orangish amber, light head. Nice floral aroma. Excellent hop flavor and nice bitterness. Clean finish that leaves you wanting another one. At 6.0 they sneak up on you. This beer is a must for hopheads. yesyouam (1016) - Fairport, New York, USA - AUG 12, 2009
Tröegs HopBack Amber Ale is a very clear, solid amber ale with a thick, dense, yellowish head that has outstanding retention and lacing. It has a fresh hoppy aroma, citrusy and grassy with a hint of sweetness. It’s medium bodied, foamy and very smooth. The finish is clean and dry. This is beautifully balanced. That touch of sweetness seems to go with both the juicy hops and the caramel malt. There’s a little bit of roastiness in the after taste. This is an ideal beer! tramp55555 (61) - Lisbon, Ohio, USA - JAN 28, 2012
An excellent beer, period. Very hoppy and malty as well. Slight notes of caramel, maybe some spice. Well done Troegs! MarkSachon (1023) - Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 3, 2014
Tap sampler at Troegs in Hershey, PA. Plenty of hops detected on the nose and taste. Maybe overdone with respect to hop saturation. Falconseye8 (542) - Evans, Colorado, USA - JUN 9, 2004
Smells hoppy, looks like an light amber hue. Picture perfect appearance. First sip, grapefruit flavor, nice gravity, mouthful feeling. This is an excellent beer. Will definitely be in aquisition mode when it comes to sampling the rest of this breweries product line. Excellent Amber.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2007 Very enjoyable Ale. Beautiful amber color! Almost perfect blend of malt and hops, however I’d prefer a bit more hops and a tad less of the caramel malt flavor. I definitely would recommend this and look forward to trying it again soon. yogy (2) - USA - JUN 9, 2007 does not count
it may not be the best i’ve had, but it sure is good. Nice and smooth, with nice hoppy flavor. It could be a little more bitter, but i can live without that. Give it a try if you have the chance. mdebolt (1) - Maryland, USA - MAR 1, 2010 does not count
Sixth barrel on tap. One of my favorite Amber Ales. Very nice hop flavor and finish with a nice floral aroma. However, the hops are also nicely balanced by the caramel malt character of the brew and the malts don’t take over the finish as they do in other ambers I’ve tried. I’m a fan of MANY independent brews, but I keep HopBack around all the time! ordybill (1758) - Douglasville, Georgia, USA - SEP 27, 2015
Poured from the tap at the Blue & Gray Pub in Gettysburg, PA into a pint glass. This beer is a light copper color with a small tan head. The aroma is big on hops and citrus with a hint of pine. The flavor is full of hops and has that citrus finish. The brew is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A great ale.
