3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014/08/15 - Pours a hazy golden/straw colour with a large, soapy, white head that dissipates slowly without lacing. Aroma is biscuit & caramel malt, yeast, cloves, mild alcohol, and esters of banana, bubblegum and apple. Taste is sweet caramel, yeast, apple, stonefruit, clove and sweet alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium to full, slightly sticky with lively carbonation and a warming, boozy finish. Pretty good, would have been better if it were a little less sweet.

Medium bead head. Yeasty, with a fair amount of sediment. Aromas of cola, grass, juicy tropical fruit. Sweet on the finish. gripweed57 (2452) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - APR 22, 2017
375 ml corked and caged bottle. Hazy honey gold color. Small foamy white head. Sweet fruity malt nose has yeasty notes. Flavor is more of the same, with honeyish notes. Dry champagne-like finish. Belgian in style, yet indistinctive. Dacrza (977) - Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA - APR 18, 2017
DATE: April 18, 2017... OCCASION: watching Rogue One after a fun day of gardening and weeding... GLASSWARE: Affligem chalice... pours an opaque, dark amber body rife with tiny bubbles... the head is charged, fizzy, white and swift in its descent to a pencil-thin finish... immediate grapefruit, bourbon, pepper, clove, raisin, cranberry, and a nice brown ale sweetness... highly effervescent and lively at the teeth, dry at the finish, and lingering throughout the sip--encouraging the next, and the next... as per blond ales, succulently light and misleading... pepper, lilac, clove, grapefruit, citrus, lemon, and bright malts... a tight, medium-bodied ale that stays within the expectations of a tripel, as Troegs intended... what else to say? this small cork’n’cager is about worth its price tag, and definitely a slow night sipper... I am a Troegenator Double Bock fan . . .good stuff. However, this La Grave, despite the fancy corked and caged bottle, was otherwise not distinctive. It did pour and maintain a great head . . . tall and rocky as the bottle says. I did finally pick up the "crusty bread" as described as well. It was more bitter than expected which could be the "pepper" -- or -- a really dry Brut champagne finish. There was just nothing enjoyably distinctive to me that would cause me to buy it again. Doesn’t stop me from being a Troegenator fan though. shawnmurphy (495) - Plattsburgh, New York, USA - MAR 5, 2017
Caged and corked bottle pours a sparkling bright golden color with a big, bubbly, foamy white head, at least 2" tall, although slowly settling to 1" after five minutes. Loads of bubbles zipping north up the glass! Aroma: yeasty bread, pear, banana and clove. Flavor: lemon, white pepper, banana, clove and apricot. Light bodied with a crisp finish yet creamy mouthfeel, along with a prickly carbonation on the tongue. A very good U.S.-brewed version of a Duvel.

At JCC 5k Brew and Brisket run. Cloudy yellow with lots of foam. Taste of spice, clove, banana. Don't love the style, but this is decent.

Pours a cloudy dirty yellow with a large foamy white head. Nice aroma of Belgian spices, bready dough, and yeast. Flavors don’t linger for long. Slightly dry finish. Not as good as I expected but OK. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - AUG 12, 2016
Bottle. It pours a hazy orange color with an off white head. The aroma is bready with some dried apricot, banana and baking spice. The flavor is the same. Bready, bread crust, light bananas and dried apricots. Lots of nice fruitiness and more subtle spicy yeast. Strong alcohol presence and noticeable earthy, herbal bitterness. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and a dry finish. Medium to high carbonation. The alcohol is a little strong, but not out of style. Very tasty.
