(Old) bottle of Scratch 12. Pours cloudy gold with a white head. Light peachy and citrus candy sweetness, some mild flowery notes, light malty sweetness, and low bitterness. Really not that bad for an old ass IPA. callmemickey (4543) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 8, 2012
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 a: light orange/amber body... moderate off white head... little retention and light lacing
s: soft pine needles, resin, earthy floral hops and light citrus aromas.. subdued
t: nicely balanced between the pine and resin tones and a soft roasted nutty malt backbone... light citrus highlights... nothing particularly pops though
m: nice carbonation, good weight to the body with a clean, crisp refreshing bite at the end
o: a very well balanced ipa that went well in the sun with some food... while lacking in the wow factor some other ipas have, this beer made up for in overall enjoyability

Labeled as Scratch 12. My very first beer at Deuane’s basement clear out tasting is a three year old Scratch IPA. You are just lucky I needed to tick this one. Poured into a taster glass, a few times over.
A - Pours light hazy amber yellow with a nice one and a half finger tall white head leaving sticky rings of lace down the glass.
S - For being three years old this one has held up surprisingly well. Smells of pine, grassy hops, dulled citric fruit, sweet caramel malt, and some dried bread crumbs.
T - Starts off with a nice dose of sweet caramel malt quickly giving way to a mix of surprisingly bitter grassy hops, dulled citric rind; most notably orange and grapefruit; and a bit of chewy day old bread crumbs. The finish is a mix of light hop bitterness and some sweet caramel malt.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Dry, chewy, feel with some lingering hop bitterness in the finish.
O - While this one is obviously past its prime it is still pretty good actually. The malts have become the dominate force but the hops are still lurking in the shadows, which shocked me considering it is now three years old. Thanks for this Scratch beer tick go out to Deuane and the luck of the draw. brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - MAY 16, 2011
Labeled as Scratch 12.
A: The beer pours a cloudy orange color with a small white head.
S: A surprisingly citrusy aroma to this beer. Some nice tangerine and orange notes. Sweet fruits and a bit of oxidation, brown sugar, and sweet pale malts round out the aroma.
T: Good citrus peel flavor and a surprising bitterness. Some tangerine and peaches give a nice sweetness, which is not overrunning the beer. I find that surprising given the fact this is three year old IPA.
M: Medium in body with a low to medium carbonation.
O: Certainly not ideal, but this is still pretty good. Nice fruit and pine flavors. paultheguru (644) - Parker, Colorado, USA - AUG 29, 2010
A: snifter. pours an opaque bright yellow with some orange hues. nice white head on top with a good retention level and very nice lacing.
S: nice solid IPA aroma. The typical citrus hop aroma is there with some nice pine hints. I am also puling some nice apricot aromas from the malts.
T: really nice flavored IPA. very well-balanced nice apricot flavored malts with a solid light citrus hop flavor.
M: very mellow, which is what this style is truly about. perfect carbonation level. smooth, creamy, and a decent bite.
D: this is a great IPA, damn near close to perfect for the style in my opinion. absolutely wonderful. get it if you can.

Thanks for this one in a trade! Its hard to trade for scratch beers when Harrisburg and Pittsburgh have very similar selections.
A- Hazy golden yellow body that pours with a 1/2 finger head. Great head retention and traces of lacing all the way down the glass.
S- Nice bright hoppy smell. Mostly citrus in the nose.
T- Some citrusy hops flavor upfront with a steady malt backbone. A bit of floral hops and pine added for the finish with minimal bitterness.
P- Nice smooth mouthfeel with medium to high carbonation.
O- This was more of a hoppy pale ale than an IPA to me. Nugget Nectar and Hopback are definitely hoppier (but a different kind of hoppy). Great beer all around and another awesome beer by Troeg’s. Can’t wait to open 11,13, and 14! Thanks again mike!

Thanks to Mike for the bottle (as Scratch 12)! Poured milky golden with an easily-resuscitated beige head. The aroma picked up pineapple and floral hoppage over soft bread and caramel notes.. quite soft overall with a very nice spicy kick on the back. The flavor opened with tart pineapple and woodsy notes that rolled into the bready core.. pineapple, catty, and pine bitterness surrounded (but were slightly muted with age).. finished with citrus and almost vinegary tartness. Medium-bodied with just enough carbonation to keep it moving.. great elements here, but I wish I had it a year ago. CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 28, 2009
Bottle shared by kmweaver 6/28/08: Pours a transparent golden with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly sweet pale malts and fresh resiny grapefruity hops. Body starts fairly full with good carbonation and assertive hops balanced with a nice light sweetness before a crisp bittersweet finish. A nice IPA. Bottle as Scratch 12 courtesy of BOLTZ7555. Pours a cloudy yellowish orange with a half finger white head that leaves decent lacing. The nose is malt and light citrus. The taste is caramel malt, tart citrus fruit and a bitter pine finish that lingers on the tongue for a while. Medium prickly body. Good stuff – thanks Jason! blankboy (7691) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 12, 2009
My bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of TheEpeeist. As Troegs Scratch 12. Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange with a small diminishing white head. Slightly stale aroma, a bit vegetal, along with peaches, more fruit and citrus hops. Flavour of fruit, sweet malt, citrusy hops, light spices and yeast. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good.
