12oz bottle. Poured a medium to darker brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roasted/toasted nuts, light chocolate, caramel, and a little earthy. Tastes of caramel, roast, light chocolate, and coffee. Body on the thinner side. DocLock (10836) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 12, 2007
Bottle from Capone’s. Dark brown pour with 2-finger khaki head. Aroma of big roasty dark malt, brown sugar, some chocoff and cherry notes. Medium palate heft, with flavors of dark malt, slight chocoff, slight cherry, and a big finishing hop bite. This one seems to get hoppier and drier as it warms. This is part of the Scratch series and is the porter which debuted in June. It can only be purchased at the brewery. It starts with a nice chestnut-laden caramel soaked flavor with a decent garden-like hoppy aspect (55 IBUs). This has that nutty-hoppy fusion present in other Troegs beers. It starts off as rather dry but is an easy to drink porter. It is not as dark and silky as other porters but has some chocolate malt flavors which are pretty pleasing. The aftertaste has a coppery coffee feel. This one doesn’t seem very sweet compared to, say, Anchor Porter. Nothing over the top here but damn tasty IMHO! Scratch 3 will be a Triple so time to hit Harrisburg again!
