COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the end of this four-beer IPA series, we pulled out some hop warhorses—Cascade and Amarillo—and incorporated a new favorite—Citra—into the mix. Following a similar grain bill to Scratch #38 and #39, #40 is a hazy orange beer with an off-white head, and plenty of hops to spare. In fact, this could be a Troegs record as more than three pounds of hops

Bready Munich malts and ample dry-hopping with Citra and Cascade hops gives #40 a sweet and tropical citrus aroma, akin to a hoppy Orange Julius, while a huge Amarillo hop addition in the kettle provides a long, lingering bitterness.

This cycle of uber-hoppy beers has been a blast for us to brew and drink, and gives us plenty of beer for thought as we devise future hoppy concoctions.

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin white head. The aroma has notes of malt, straw, and peaches. The flavor is sweet with malt, caramel, fruits, and hops, leading to a very bitter finish.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours a clear deep golden with an off-white head. Sweet citrusy hop aroma. Fairly solid body, heavy and intense fruitiness, very heavy hoppiness comes out though the finish with also quite some alcohol showing. 270411

A: The beer pours a clear amber/orange color with a smallish white head. S: Smells really cheesy. A big fake lemon aroma, perhaps some Pine Sol, and some bleach and other solvent type aromas. Just really quite bad. On top of it, there’s a strong sweetness along with some alcohol. T: The flavor is very harsh with a lot of lemon zest and an overly aggressive bitterness and astringency. Some herbal notes, booze, and pine. M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation, but the aftertaste is unpleasant. D: This series of IPAs has been quite bad. I’m usually a big fan of Troegs beers, but these just missed the mark.

Bottle courtesy of a trade with kaydogg from BA. Pours a somewhat hazy orange amber with a medium to large creamy white head that falls steadily. Nice big sticky citrus notes on the nose. Medium bodied, sweet caramel and malt at the start, like a malt candy with some hop notes. Grows a bit more earthy and complex as it heads to a slowly developing grapefruit bitter finish. Quite nice.

12oz bottle. Poured a medium to deeper amber color with an average sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, floral hops, and fruity. Tastes of fruitiness, citrus (juicy oranges), caramel, pine, and doughy. I could drink this one all night long.
