From old tasting notes - Reddish amber with head. Sweet sugary raspberry aroma. Very sweet raspberriy cough syrup candy sugar vanilla. Too sweet and fruity and sticky. BelgianBeerGal (4038) - Panama City, Florida, USA - MAR 10, 2012
Traded bottle that took me some effort to match up in the database but I’m sure it was right. This really seemed more like a raspberry infused tripel to me. I definitely got the raspberries (stronger in the aroma than taste) but also some yeast and banana notes too. Pretty nice though. Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 21, 2011
it pours clear dark amber with a decent off white head on top. The aroma is raspberry and yeast that is crisp in the nose. The flavor is delicious, like a raspberry abbey dubbel. The raspberry flavors start out blended with malts, then the raspberry sticks around on the palate while the body calms down to a light-bodied and refreshing ale with notes of the yeast and slight vanilla. There aren’t notes of the cacao at this point unfortunately, but really enjoyed overall. orangesol (987) - Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2011
Served on-tap in the Troegs tasting room into a goblet.
A - Pours ruby red, with hints of brown around the edges, with a small half finger tall white head, dissipating down to nothing at all, leaving little to no lacing down the glass.
S - Plenty of belgian yeast, raspberries, and some faint chocolate up front. Very similar to mad elf but with raspberries rather than the typical cherries. A bit of booze comes thru as it warms up but not as much as in mad elf.
T - Heavy dose of bready yeast up front giving way quickly to a mix of tart raspberries and some light chocolatey sweetness. The vanilla comes thru a bit more as it warms up a bit. Finish is pretty chewy with some lingering raspberry tartness. Very similar to mad elf but a bit more yeast in this one. I enjoyed this one but it really wasn’t anything mind blowing.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderately low carbonation. Very chewy feel with a good bit of it mixing with the raspberry tartness to linger on the pallet for quite awhile.
D - Pretty good. I actually had a sample of this one before they added the chocolate and it was quite good. Now with the chocolate and vanilla added I think it took a step in the wrong direction. Still very good tho. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 8, 2011
Bottled. Poured reddish-amber with a short, but easily-resuscitated pinkish-beige head. The aroma picked up raspberry seeds and meat above all else.. some chocolate and nutty notes beneath.. vanilla worked hard as it warmed up.. overall deep and complex. The flavor found sweeter raspberry and cocoa throughout.. tangy raspberry seeds and sweet vanilla on the edges.. nutty notes, vanilla, and raspberries on the long finish. Medium-bodied and sweet, yet dry on the palate.. solid feel, but I could’ve used more tartness from the raspberries.

bottle shared by matt murphy - fruity berries/raspberries. creamy body. Caramel malts, spicey belgian yeast and some gummy notes. Dry, roasty malts with mild tartness from the fruit. Good balance, but just not that interesting. mixmasterob (1057) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - AUG 29, 2011
Bottle from murp, I think. Poured a deep garnet with no head. Aroma was raspberry, fruity Belgian yeasty esters and some light caramel. Flavors were also big on the raspberry with just a touch of cocoa ans sweet malt. Mouthfeel wasn’t thin, somewhat in the middle with lively carbonation. Very tasty brew... Draft. OK, it must have been very late in the session when I tried this one, because my notes just say "sweet" and w whole bunch of exclamation points. Nickls (2523) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - JUL 18, 2011
Tap, CK. Light tan head; ruby red copper body. Fresh berries, some sweetness, and almost cough syrup like notes in the aroma. Way, way too sweet for me; medicinal, fruity, and lots of sugariness. Medium body with very subtle carbonation. Eh phaleslu (10099) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 11, 2011
12 oz. bottle that was a recent trade bonus. Pours a nice-looking deep brown color with some reddish hints and a thick, resilient beige head. Notes of berry fruits, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, caramel malts, earth, and bananas. Medium-bodied, with soft carbonation and a smooth, fruity mouthfeel. Cool beer.
