3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft at Capones in norristown, PA.
Pours a dark copper color with amber edges and a one finger off-white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Sporadic streaks of lace left behind.
Mild aroma with some candy sugar, dark fruit notes and mild spice. Pretty tame though with minimal malt presence. Some caramel and toffee but the sugar and vinous fruit notes are overpowering.
Medium bodied with a slightly tart yeast presence along with some peppery spice, candy sugar and vinous fruit flavor. Dry with subtle funk, pepper, clove, candy sugar sweetness and licorice. Again, the malt presence is minimal with subtle caramel, toffee and biscuit followed by more grape, raisin and dark berry sweetness. Decent but leans heavy on the Belgian not enough on the brown ale side for my preference.

more a brown ale that happens to have belgian yeast than a belgian ale that happens to be brown, if that makes sense. a nice crisp, malty sweet american brown ale base, subtle hops make a showing. as it warms the interplay between the dry, spicy belgian yeast and the malt is really nice. good brew."

A brown beer, nice, but a bit harsh in the finish and so not super drinkable. Brown coloured, no head. Very malty and rich aged malt aroma.

Bottle from PUB’N. Pours a great shade of ruby with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is rich, complex, a nice figgy and berry-fruity nose with hints of spice, hops, and yeasty malt. Tastes malty, spicy, rather dry, with a lot of Grand Cruey fruity notes, figgy, cherry, spicy, and cobwebby old-aley esters. This one is outstanding, and I’d love to see this introduced all year round. I discovered Scratch 4, and I discovered this one, which I would call Musty Dusty Old Ale.
