12oz bottle. Poured a dark brown with an averaged sized off white head. Lacing left on the glass. Aromas of pine, floral, some roast, burnt, and very light chocolate lurking in the background. Tastes of chocolate, roast, some citrus, caramel, and lighter pine. hopscotch (11159) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 19, 2012
Bottle... Pours dark brown - practically black - with a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The aroma features dark chocolate and deeply roasted malts with hints of molasses and leather. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. Tastes almost like a Danish imperial stout - burnt malt accompanied by tannic, rindy bitterness. Finishes scorched and tongue-numbing. Not very bitter for 100 IBUs. Bottle generously shared by growler! DocLock (10721) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 18, 2012
Bottle. Pours turbid chestnut with 2-finger tan head that laces well. Nose is roasty dark malts, cacao, perfumy florals, resiny hops, and cinnamonny spices. Smells a lot like Alpha Klaus. Tastes rich, very resiny and peppery hoppy, with big roasty cacao, chocolatey malt, and a super IBU-laden finish. This is one of the better examples of this style, and I hope they call it Big Black Bitter Bulldozer. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 25, 2012
355mL shared on the RBSG bus. Poured clear brown, small sticky lace. Nose is cheesy, herbal, nutty. Black IPA? Taste is very bitter, roasty, heavy bitterness. Long, hoppy finish. Definitely Black IPA. egajdzis (6613) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 27, 2012
Dark brown with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa, a bit of roast, pine, and light citrus. Taste of citrus, pine, light tobacco, some cocoa, some sweetness, and a hoppy finish.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate and pine with a hint of grapefruit. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a small soapy beige head. The flavor starts with a very quick dose of chocolate. The finish comes on quickly with heavy pine. Overall, it’s heavy enough on the piney hops that it probably resembles a "Black IPA" more so than a hoppy Porter.
12 oz bottle from Capones. Poured a thinner density dark black with a foamy beige head. Aroma of wet dog, rotting citrus meat, bad vanilla, wet burnt toast. Full bodied with average carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel along with a bitter finish. Flavor is superior to the aroma, notes of burnt toast, bitter yellow grapefruit, old burnt coffee, roasty. Good beer, probably even better when fresher. TheBeerGod (6233) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Bottle - courtesy of GandGKevin. Thanks Kevin! Black bodied with a tall, frothy brown head. Strong hop aroma that stands out in front of the roasted malt. Big floral hops, pine, herbal hops and citrus notes with strong roasted malt just behind it. Taste is big roasted malt, pine, citrus oils, floral hops, wet hops, and herbal hop notes. Body is medium with a moderate, bubbly carbonation and a strong, lingering hop bitterness. Finishes with more roasted malt notes, herbal hops, pine notes, wet hops, hop resins, and floral notes. michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 13, 2012
Draught at TND: Aroma of hops, pine, resin, malt, molasses, brown sugar. Poured very dark brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of malt, molasses, hops, pine, resin, and brown sugar. Medium body. Tingly, then dry texture. Medium sweet, medium bitter, malt, hop, pine, resin molasses, brown sugar finish is dry. callmemickey (4549) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 22, 2012
Dark brown, verging on black in complexion. Medium tan head, good retention and nice lacing. Assertive pine, roast, and grapefruit. Hints of grass and milk chocolate. A nice balance for a black IPA. The flavor profile is just as complex, but a bit mellow for my liking. Medium bodied, assertive carbonation, ample bitterness, nice clean biting finish.
