A: Golden Straw Hue, Passes Lots of Light, White Head, Some Lacing
S: Grainy Malts, Bready, Apple
T: Pale Malts, Apple, Pear, Mild Biscuits
M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Lightly Sweet
Overall, a pretty nice helles lager with some of the mild maibock character, very interesting selection. orangesol (987) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 8, 2012
Served on-tap at the brewery.
A - Pours clear golden yellow with a nice one and a half finger tall white head leaving thin rings of sticky lace down most of the glass.
S - Smells of mildly toasted grain, caramel, herbal hops, toasted nuts and some light fruitiness. A flowery note creeps in as it warms up. Nothing too over the top, just a solid nose.
T - Starts off with the toasted grains quickly giving way to hints of caramel sweetness, herbal noble hops and some freshly toasted nuts. Finish is a little chewy with some caramel malt sweetness, lingering on the palate for a little while after consumption.
M - Light body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Crisp, chewy feel just like 64 but with a bit of extra sweetness. It took me a few extra sips to finish this one, still very easy to drink however.
O - Fairly similar to Scratch 64, maybe with a bit more sweetness this time. They have really been making some great German beers recently and this one is no exception. I will get my fill while it is around. craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 25, 2012
Thanks to Greg and Anne for this one. Nose is full of straw, sourdough, rye, just a gorgeous rich bread component, along with floral hop presence. Flavor brings more sweet stone fruit and caramel, same nice bread, and a bitter finish. Quite good. gsmitty80 (2130) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 18, 2012
This is by far the best non-german Heller Bock that i have had although it tastes just like them. Big malty taste with a little bit of honey and a clean finish. Amazing beer that i could drink all night. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 29, 2012
12 oz bottle, from brewery. Pours a clear dark gold body with a small frothy white head that faded to a thin film. The nose is slightly sweet malt with some bready and crackery notes. Some nice light flowery hop notes add a little bit of complexity. The flavor is pretty solid as well, on the lighter side as far as a Helles Bock goes in the malt department. It does make it a bit more drinkable and refreshing though. Nice slight honey sweetness throughout with just the right amount of bitterness on the finish. Light to medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice beer, especially for the heat of summer.
