Aroma: The nose is fairly malty, with some caramel, nuts, earth, fruity notes, and light hops
Appearance: This one pours a golden-orange color with and tan head and some light lace
Flavor: The flavor is fairly malty, a little sweet, but not overly sweet, and with some hop notes too
Palate: The body is medium, it feels just a little metallic, it doesn’t have a great feel, but still drinks decently
Overall, I thought that this one was a solid or better example of an Oktoberfest, which is a style where I generally don’t find a ton of range. This one, however, has a little range and some interesting components, and for this style, that is really saying something.
Tap. Pours clear, dark copper with thin, creamy white head; short retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is cookie and caramel malt, grassy hops, figs, pine, and orange. Flavor is sweet malt throughout with some light fruit esters and subtle hops to add a hint of bitterness; dry finish. Light body and low carbonation. reggiedunlop (3725) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 23, 2012
Pours clear amber with a medium lt tan head. Aroma is lightly fruity with some caramel and dry leaves...bit of tea. Flavor follows suit with some nice earthy hops for balance. Mouthfeel is medium/full and the finish is earthy/malty. Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 12, 2012
Pours somewhat clear amber with a smaller gray head. The aroma brings some sweet malty, bready notes, almost floral and soft in the nose. The flavor brings wheat like malty flavors and some pure yeast on a crispy body. tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - MAR 27, 2015
Bottle: Why ratebeer doesn’t add the moniker that comes alongside the "Scratch" number is retarded. This one was labeled "Fest Lager". Shady orange-copper pour with mild clarity, offset by a modest chill haze in the center. Small bits of sediment float around. Smell, beige, foam cap on top. Aroma is a bit mild, complete with some estery spice, buttery malt, & light toast. Very timid. Flavor is heavier with the Munich maltiness; lots of toasted & buttered bread, biscuits, caramel, & dry toffee. A hint of sulfur, milled grains, & a touch of some vaguer fruity sweetness... Likely from the esters. Hard to pinpoint, though. Maybe prune? Very faint floral & musty hop notes with a strange, moldy cork flavor that only shows up in the aftertaste, alongside nicer notes of buttered toast & grains. Low carbonation. Not awful, but something is up. Some sips are alright, others are like "wtf". All-around, simply OK at best.
