So, just how fresh is our Fresh Hop Ale? Well, first we begin with 400 pounds of fresh, whole flower hops from B.T. Loftus Ranches in Yakima, WA. These hops are hand-picked right from the vine, placed into boxes, and immediately shipped to our brewery. Once they arrive, we pack a double dose of these glorious green, sticky cones into our hopback vessel until it is bursting at the seams. This equates to two pounds of hops per barrel! Due to the volatile nature of recently harvested hops, we must use them immediately in order to capture the bold aromas and flavors released by the hop oils. The payoff is a fresh, flavorful ale dripping with the essence of oily hop goodness.

Draft at Brewery. Hazy yellow body with medium head. Flavor begins with grapefruit with a strong floral/hop presence. Resin and slight bitter finish. An excellent IPA with a powerful hop punch while hiding alcohol well.

Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ. Pours a hazy dark golden yellow color with a 1.5 finger pillowy, white foam head that very slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lace left behind. Dank floral hop aroma with a subtle pale malt presence. Fresh juicy hops with resinous pine and citrus peel countered by bready yeast and biscuity makt. Some grapefruit and pineapple countering grassy hops and pine needles. Medium bodied with a blast of juicy, sticky hops up front that linger over the pale malts into a dry finish. Sticky, dry and bitter with resinous pine and grassy spruce tip notes. This is countered by citrus and tropical fruit notes as well as a decent pale malt backbone. Some grapefruit, pineapple and lemon peel followed by bread, biscuit and graham cracker. Decent hoppy beer that’s well balanced and easy to drink. Nothing too out of the ordinary but enjoyable nonetheless.

Thanks to chris and carrie. Near clear golden pour with small white head. Nose is bright citrus hop with slight skunk. Flavor is more grassy and orange peel and pellet hop. Sweet and spicy. Pretty solid.

From the tap poured a straw color with a good amount of head. Strong hoppy malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste.

Tap. Fluffy white head on a clear straw orange body. Doughy, slight pure honey, aggressive hoppiness that comes across earthy, woody and citrusy in the aroma. Flavor is a touch sweet, biscuity, earthy honey, and a grassy hop finish. Lighter body. Strange, but not bad.

Bottle from brewery. Pours hazy canary with white clingy head. Nose is huge resiny pineapply hops, tropical citrus, black pepper. Tastes rich, fruity, with mango, pineapple, star fruit, and finishing black pepper and honey. The palate is rich, with smoothness on a nitro level, and a great finish. This one kicks major ass. I called Scratch 4 and was the first to recognize it’s profound greatness, and I’m calling Scratch 78. Chris and John, you need to make this all year round, and as a tribute to 78, please call it Dwight White Hop Blaster Ale (in honor of #78 from the Steel Curtain, Dwight White).

Orange with a rocky white head. Aroma is powerful hops, citrus, pine, pineapple, resin. Body is medium and slightly chalky. Flavor has loads of hops juice, citrus, resin, fruit, and light sweetness. Mid-level bitterness. Not really sure why but this one just seemed like a miss to me. Solid but nothing exceptional.
