(Bottle) Pours a clear yellow body with a small white head. Aroma is dominated by yarrow and ginger becoming more fragrant as it warms with notes of orange peel, banana, light coriander, juniper, and perfume. The flavor carries much from the aroma with the yarrow and ginger then leading deeper with cinnamon, light citrus, juniper, and nutmeg. Enjoyable! heemer77 (5360) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - MAY 7, 2008
Nice experiment with the yarrow, which in my opinion turned out much better than Fluxus. Would not be surprised to see more experimentation of yarrow as a substitute for hops in Belgian influenced beers.
From 2008, thanks for sharing, iowaherkeye. The body was hazy yellow with a white head. The aroma was strongly herbal with some medicinal qualities. There were also some cake donuts. The taste was bread crust with some oregano. There was also some sweet pear, like a saison to me. Low carbonation. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - MAY 7, 2008
12oz, no date from Dickinsonbeer and the Mystery Swap 3.0--thanks Paul. Clear amber yellow with a minimal white head. Definite herbal and peppery aromas--much like a saison. Pretty yeasty with some banana notes and candi sugar sweetness, though overall pretty dry with what I can only guess is the juniper berries. Flavor up front is banana and the juniper, with some coriander and peppery notes following behind. Some honey’s also noted. Bone dry finish with bitterness peaking at a 2-3. Light carbonation with a full body. Pretty decent, actually SphinxTX (2875) - Mata Gorda, Texas, USA - MAY 6, 2008
Bottle (Thanks to Bu11zeye).
Poured a cloudy yellow with minimal white head. Aroma of Ginger and Citris. Sweet flavor of strong ginger, citris, and light notes of bannana & cinnamon.
Medium carbonation with medium-full body. Good stuff! mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - MAY 4, 2008
Bottle. Deep golden in color with no head. Malty fruity spicy aroma. Banana and clove notes. No herbs here. Its more like a hefeweiss. Malty and spicy flavor. Peppery and clove notes. Sweet tasting. Finish is hoppy. Ok beer. Drinkable. This beer is nothing like the description though.
Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - MAY 4, 2008
Bottle. Hardly any head even with a hard pour. Gold color. You would swear by aroma only it was some sort of imperial hefe, with plenty of spice and banana. Flavor is bubblegum and coriander with a bit of sulfur. Sticky and sweet with a dash of cinnamon and black pepper. This beer is a train wreck, in the fact that it’s a spicy tripel and way too sweet and hoppy. wetherel (1888) - Cupertino, California, USA - APR 30, 2008
Bonus 12oz bottle from Egajdzis. Thanks Eric! and a special thank you to Troegs for making this beer 10.1% instead of 10%, so I can tick off another >10% beer. Yellow color. Plastic, corriander aroma, I originally mistook for Brett phenolics. Mild carbonation. Kind of soapy aroma. Sweetish. Pretty decent. bp (939) - New York, New York, USA - APR 29, 2008
Bottle: pours a slightly hazy, yellowish color with a thin lacing of white head around the edge of the glass, aroma is spicy, citrus and honey, taste is sweet honey, a little bit of the spice in the finish, it’s pretty hard to believe this is a 10% ABV. Glad I got to try it. tyler_mn (1475) - SLP, Minnesota, USA - APR 28, 2008
Bottle. Floral, soapy and mildly spicy on the nose. A definite amount of spiced honey sweetness. Some dryer, hay like yeast in the background as well. Actually, balanced nicely between sweet and spicy. Pours hazy gold with a thin ring of a white head. Coriander dominates with the juniper becoming quite noticeable on the finish. Rightly spicy with a nice amount of sweet malt, zesty hops and spicy yeast to round out. Medium bodied with a lasting zesty finish. Thanks Seth! Acquired via trade from acrdz...THANKS AGAIN MIKE!!! Nice 14-karat hazy pour with an extremely small cotton head, this beer completely hides the outrageous alcohol content...not sure where it went!!! Can definitely taste the influence of the juniper berries and coriander (though not as much as in AleSmith’s Horny Devil). Spicy, sweet, and interesting. Would love to try something else from this brewery!!!
