Sampled on draft at whole foods in short pump. Clearish dark brown pour with some tan head. Big rye character in both the nose and flavor. Growler from Whole Foods. Pours a very deep brown black, nice head. Aroma is strongly of piney hops. Flavor is a match. Light peppery note and a bit of chocolate, but really dominated by the pine hops. Body rather light. Not bad, wish it had a bit more oomph on the malts. Draft at Devils Backbone. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized creamy head. Good head retention. Aroma of spicy rye, earthy and herbal hops, mild pepper. The taste is earth, caramel, rye, dry fruits, pine and resin hops. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, well balanced. Three awesome breweries combine to make one awesome beer. lots of black ipas floating around these days. It was really nice, the tastes are really seperated, at first you are hit with a bit of a roasty ipa taste then the black part kicks in with toasted malts, bit of a spice and i guess what would be the rye. Nice black IPA. Color was nice and dark, a bit opaque. Scent was citrus and earthy notes. Flavor was nicely bitter with some roasty characteristics. finished super dry. Very refreshing.

On tap at Church Brew. Pours a dark murky brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma of lots of citrus hops, grassy and garlicky hops, and roasted malt. Flavor starts out more roasted with charred and chocolate malts and finishes with a big bitter hoppy finish. Some peppery notes in the flavor too. A very tasty black IPA!

Poured a jet black. Flavor was charcoal, earthy, lots of sharp bitterness without much complexity. Not a fan.

Pours deep brown with a thick tan head...nice retention. Aroma has burnt notes and bitter dark chocolate. Flavor is burnt and bitter with light peppery notes...very bitter...slightly chalky. Tap at Barcade. Muddy pour, muddy taste, a little dankness in there but a lot of malt, cocoa, pepper, and lots of roast. Smooth at first, but a little astringent in finish. Just alright.
