3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This pours a jewel-like garnet color out of the bottle with only the barest of off white heads. There is a lot of booziness to this beer, both in the nose and the flavor. The nose has some tart cherry notes along with the alcohol. Cherry and plum fruitiness with lots of brown sugar and some molasses sweetness. And the alcohol. This is a little hot for me.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance a nice reddish brown, but lifeless. Smell is sweet malt, licorice.. almost like a bad Christmas candy. Taste of malty licorice sweetness, a bit of an awkward spice on the backend.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Thanks altonbrownd for the bottel! Poured into a snifter showing well filtered dark brown with brown leather quickly dissipating foam.
The nose shows a lot of honey with a bed of tart cherries.
The palate is moderately carbonated and full bodied. Honey forward flavor that integrates well with the malts and bing cherries in the background. Not bad but not great. Slightly cloying towards end.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clear dark garnet brown with a full small bead pale tan head. Aroma is dried dark fruit caramel and a bit of alcohol. Taste is sweet roasted malt, dried dark fruit, caramel, licorice and molasses. Almost cloyingly sweet with ABV noticable after the swallow. Very smooth and delicious.

2015 vintage. Upon opening a bit of off flavors and maybe a bit of vinager. Once you stit down with it there is little carbonation. Flavor notes of cinimon stick, 5 spice, Molassesand brow sugar . Not bad but could be better.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep red amber with minimal head. Nose is cherry, honey, mulled spices. Taste is Christmas - warming spices, thick honey, cherry tartness, slightly medicinal. Syrupy mouthfeel. I’m sure there are "better" takes on whatever this style is but it’s good and the holidays are made for nostalgia. Look forward to it every year.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from Christmas beer exchange
Appearance: Rich honey amber. Slightly hazy. Fine to no foam.
Nose: Rich sweet malt. Stone fruit. Hints of spice. Candied caramel.
Taste: Sweet candied fruit and honey. Alcohol evident. Touch of spice.
Body: Thicker and maybe approaching syrupy.
Parting thoughts: A very weighty but tasty winter beer. a decent winter warmer for sure.

Shout out to mydude DurhamBeer for sending this... oh a good long while ago (going on 3 years, maybe)... Either way I intended to rate it during Christmastime, now it’s June... and it’s time.
Pours a deep reddish brown with a small head.
At this point this smells like an aged beer, bits of oxidation are becoming prevalent and the sweet rich maltiness is very big. It’s reasonably fruity without much deliberate spice apparent anymore. Only lightly boozy on the nose with some sweet cherries and a good bit of tootsie roll.
The flavor still seems pretty darn festive, again not much in the way of intended spice, but there’s a bunch of pear and cherry with a huge rich malty character that’s more on the toffee end than the chocolate end, although there is some chocolate hanging out in the background.
Even at this age, the sucker is showing that 11% off pretty darn apparently, which in a beer like this is not out of line, but yes, it’s boozy... it’s also sweet although for all the sweeter elements going on here it does work a pretty nice bit of balance. As it warms some vanilla starts to show up which I think is just exactly what’s needed here.
fun, but I should really try one fresh some time.
