The best beer I have ever tasted. Though you must be careful how large a sip you take as it can floor you quickly. bbp182 (255) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 17, 2007
The look is very nice! Nice foamy head. Red color. Looks like a red wine. The aromais nice, smooth, and malty. Hints of cherries, and honey. Alcohol is present. I expected the alcohol to overwhelm the rest of the smells but it’s the least noticeable. An amazing accomplishment for an 11 percent alcohol by volume beer. I cannot wait to try this beer. Amazingly smooth, the alcohol is not that present at all! Cherries, honey, and sweet malts are all present and delightful! BillZav (22) - Sarasota, Florida, USA - JAN 16, 2011
This holiday ale is dark ruby in color, with big cherry notes complimented by chocolate malt and honey with a hint of spices at the finish. The Mad Elf is a smooth, well balanced beer throughout, and the 11% alcohol content is well concealed. Truly one of the better Belgian strong ales around, and a special treat for this time of year.

This is by far the best Winter/Holiday beer IV ever had, at 11% abv it's masked very well with cherries honey and hints of chocolate it certainly brings out the holiday spirit but be carful there's a reason it's called the Mad Elf!

Best thing put out by Troegs. One of my favorite beers. Delicious aroma and taste and well priced for its strength.

This is one of the best beers every made. A nice cherry flavor but not overwhelming. A great belgium style beer; I just wish they would bottle it, right now it is seasonal and only on tap. vulgarparasite (10) - catasauqua, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 20, 2007
I have been drinking this on draght for the past month. Although I have the option of about 120 other fine brews at the pub, I will continue to drink many of these till they’re gone. AWMiller (512) - Mansfield, Texas, USA - NOV 17, 2011
Definitely a Christmas ale that one should try no matter what extent they must go to get it! Full of yuletide flavors - cherries, honey, cooking spices. Truly a nightcap brew of nightcap brews! The blends of sweet and spicy flavors are beyond compare. The long-lasting aftertastes of honey and cooking spices are just phenomenal and well worth every effort it takes to get your hands on this excellent brew! From a 2013 12oz bottle, Pours with a reddish tint. Smell is boozy, cherry and sweet. Tastes is malty, sweet, cherries and some honey and chocolate hints. Really hits at winter and Christmas. I love it. I will put a few down and try over the next few years to see how they mature.
