COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as liquid bread, a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix ator, we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

Hops: Magnum, German Northern Brewer

Koelschtrinker (21834) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 5, 2011
9/9/10/11/11/11

fiulijn (21471) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 1, 2010
Hazy mahogany color; small head. The aroma has some caramel and some chemicals, off-flavors. Medium body strength, caramel flavor, quite sweet, with medium sweetness, but unfortunately still with this medicinal trace. Mediocre.

Malty, sugary, caramel, mollasses, dark fruits.
Smooth mouthfeel with light carbonation.
Decent enough D’bock.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Nose brings out chewy caramel malt, bready malts, and dried dark fruits. Flavour is immensely fruity, with loads of dark red fruits, some dried fruits, bready notes, and rich chewy caramel malt providing the backbone. Quite a chewy and fruity doppelbock, with a very sweet and fruity malt component. Good stuff, but gets a bit difficult to drink after a while.

A: This pours a dark caramel color with lots of hints of brown and some red. A nice fluffy white head sits on top.

S: A lot of sweet smells coming from this beer. I picked up a bunch of sugar and malty sweetness. Perhaps some dark fruit aromas. Not really much contrast here.

T: The taste is a bit more impressive than the nose. A big punch of caramel, accompanied by brown sugar and dark fruits. A bit of breadiness helps to even out the sweetness.

M: A low carbonation gives a smooth, slick mouthfeel.

D: I’m not the biggest fan of bocks, but this one was fairly good. I had no problem taking this one down, so I’d have to say it has high drinkability.
