Drank a sample at distributor, good blend of bitter hops, rich flavor, dark pour, hint of chocolate ThaBobfather (178) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 23, 2009
Pours lighter than most doppelbocks, but it is very pretty. Very familair smell of toasted malts. The caramel covers up the 8.2% and makes this delicious. kwerikson (178) - burlington, New Jersey, USA - SEP 29, 2009
pours out ruby clear oarnge with an offwhite head that was about a finger thick and thin that was partially bubly and started to fall son after pouring. very, very slight lacing and there is a strong aroma of alcohol and wine grapes. the mouthfeel is light and lightly carbonated across the palate. kind of has a bitter sweet oniony flavour with a aftertatse of alcohol and sweet malts. very warm feeling as it goes down, perfect winter beer to keep you warm on a cold winter day. thebusstop (178) - Rochester, New York, USA - OCT 13, 2009
A crisp, clean dark brown with a small head. Nose is mostly toasted caramel malt with hints of piney hops. Palate is lively carbonation that’s a bit slick. Quite the bitter finish after a rather sweet start. I have never had a bad beer from Troegs, and this one honors their reputation! jport4087 (178) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 3, 2010
Poured a deep red with a creamy off-white head that left a huge amount of lace. Sweet aroma with caramel and even some chocolate and coffee in the nose. Not a huge fan of this style. The warm alcohol kick does shine through.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2006 I dont know. It was alright. Nothing special, I wouldn’t buy a case of it, or doubtfully a six pack of it again if there is anyt options. Maybe not my style of beer kmyers8807 (176) - Ohio, USA - DEC 10, 2009
Bottle. To my surprise, I really enjoyed this one. Pour was a dark red, brown mix with two fingers of head. Malts and hops were very well balanced with taste of caramel and maybe some honey. Fruit was of cherries. I will need to pick up another to rerate, as I was enjoying this beer so much I didnt take good notes. gormanb (174) - Bowling Green, Ohio, USA - AUG 23, 2010

From a bottle. Pours a bright amber color. Malty and dark fruit aroma with some hops and alcohol coming through. Taste is initially sweet then give way to a bitter finish with alittle alcohol burn. rhapsouldize (174) - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 11, 2005
Tap at Kclinger’s publik house in Etters, PA. Pours an orangey amber color with minimal white head. Fruity, malty aroma. Malty, sweet (overly sweet in my opinion) flavor with a slight hop punch at the finish. The alcohol is palpable. Not very drinkable.
