Black Bise is back, except that the animal was adapted to better IMPRINT in the range of the brewery. High fermentation black, with a mixture of special malts calibrated to give it body, roundness and needed a winter beer presence, without falling into the bland. It as 7.2%, so caution. This beer is brewed from September to March.

Dark, toffee brown color. Small creamy almost tan colored head. Minimal lacing. Smells of chocolate, raisins and plums. A slight artificial aroma, like fake chocolate. Tastes malty and cereal like. Nice and sweet. Creamy mouthfeel, and a slight roastiness left behind. Decent beer.

My Bottom Line :
Coffee, licorice and orangey spiciness collide in a nearly flat mouthfeel, while blackberry notes attempt to create complexity around a disproportionate roasted malt bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-There is barely a ring of foam atop the cloudy dark brown.
-This is either an unsuccessfully travelled bottle or a poorly bottled batch.
-Mild tartness also clashes with the roasty bitterness.
-Toastiness is tasted too; lots of flavors are present, but few are harmonious.
-Oh well, a rare miss from Trois Dames. Ill keep getting their Pasionaria, Oud Bruin or Saison Houblon when possible.

Bottle.

Deep black color with a thin beige head. Aroma of licorice and spices. Flavor of licorice and spices, some bitterness in the end. Light to medium body with a vinous texture and soft carbonation.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a dark brown colour with a foamy, light beige head. Aroma of roasted malts with some herbs. Flavour of sour fruits, herbs, stomach acid, overburnt malts and some hops. Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel and a dry, sour finish. Very weird, maybe this has gone bad already.

Harmonisch, lecker, angenehm hopfig. 7/9/8/9/10/9

Colabrown beer with a weak and brown head. Aroma is interesting and complex, herbs, roastiness, anis and fruity sweetness. Taste is roasted, some herbal nuancees, enough of sweetness, "sweet and sour". interesting taste. Medium bodied, slippery and nice to drink. Interesting, herbal and spicy beer, still spicys are only spicys and not the whole beer.

bouteille 33cl Couleur brune, col pais ocre. Trois Dames.

11.2 oz bottle. It pours a dark brownish black with an off-white head. I always enjoy stouts that look this way with the black and white combo. I like the smell of this one, it does indeed have some spices which add to the goodness, but it is primarily a sweet and cocoa-y brew with a nice bit of caramel and roasted malts. There is also a hint of hops. The flavor is fruitier with a nice bit of roasted malt. To be honest the hops in this are a bit overt, but then again they work well. IT is reminiscent of their hoppy porter. I would say if you like something like nightstalker, this is a bit weaker, but very tasty and similair. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-15-2011 03:10:18
