COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle, traded with Allen. It tastes like the brewer was afraid of overhopping and committed the mistake of not hopping it enough. Roasted and chocolate notes mainly, against the background of some apricot, citrusy and piney hoppiness. There are also some interesting cherry notes. Rather dry body, while the malty flavour relegates the hoppiness almost into nonexistence, save for the moderately strong, citrusy and piney bitterness. Nice, creamy carbonation but flavourwise it is a bit empty. Like a pepped up version of a dull porter that’s become significantly less dull as a result, yet is still lacking.

From bottle at Erzbierschof, Wintherthur. Very dark brown with a capuccino head. Malty aroma with hints of coffee. Quite malty with discrete, but noticeable bitterness. More brown than Indian.

Idiosynkrasie (7974) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - MAY 29, 2013
330ml bottle. Clear brown colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Minimally sourish, malty and fruity aroma with hints of cherries and grapes. Taste is moderately sweet malty, fruity, a touch of cherries and grapes, herbal hop notes, a dry touch of fruit parings, hints of roast; lasting dry finish. Slightly stray from what I think to be a typical Black IPA.

Weinartiger Geruch, säuerlich-malzig. Startmalzig. Mitte moderat schokoladenmalzig, leichte Weinnote. Abgang samtig, trockenbitter, schokoladenmalzig. Gut.

Dark, dark brown, 2 inches of pillowy head. Aroma is chocolate, resin, tropical fruits. Taste is true to description - sturdy brown ale plus serious bitterness and hops. Bit of an odd vegetal character.

mcberko (18979) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 4, 2013
330mL bottle, pours an amber-tinged dark brown with a humungous foaming off-white head (seems the bottle was disturbed). Aroma of toasted nuts, a little roast, citrus hops, and some rather unpleasant burnt rubbery notes. Flavour of burnt roasted malts, toasted nuts, harsh citrus hops, and leather / rubber. Finishes on an astringent note of harsh hops and again with the leather. Carbonation is absurdly high, destroying the mouthfeel, not that the flavours were that great to start with. Not too impressive.

Gerbeer (4020) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 28, 2013
330 ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany with huge head. Aromas of lightly roasted malts, fresh plums, and yeast. Flavors of golden raisins, light brown sugar, and toasted malts. Bitter mid to finish. Tasty for a relatively light ABV.

Fatehunter (2615) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Thin head, dark brown with lots of chunky sediment. Faint scent of roasted malt and sour milk. Taste is roasted malt, sour, mild bitterness. Light body, moderate carbonation. This could be borderline skunked. I’ve had skunked beer before and it was undrinkable, this is still drinkable but not enjoyable.
