I picked up this bottle at the cave à bières, in Yverdon. I drank it at Bonfol the last week-end. About this one, it is an interesting beer, with a charming black/brown body, white and brown foam, a lot of yeast. To be a brown ale, I could say that it is similiar than an IPA, really bitter, some roasted malt, coffee, malt, a little sweet at the final. The carbonation is rather high for the style, well balanced. I could pretend than the hop is the king with this beer. The design is original with this one and the others, good brewery.

Bue en bouteille de 33cl. Aromes de houblons, de grains grillés. Ensemble bien equilibré. Finale avec pointe de cacao amer.

Visual: (cellared for 3 years). Pours dark root beer brown with a ridiculously large lasting foamy head, clusters of very active streams, barely visible sediment.

Nose: sweet toffee brown sugar barley malts (lvl-8)-pungency

Attack: crisp-barely slick, fizzy-tingly lively CO2

Mid-palate: toffee-caramel barley malt, (lvl-5-sweetness), chocolate milk,

Finish: distinctly aromatic roasted barley, mocha, very subtly smooth bitter hops, lingering roasted finish - clean.

Summary: Not quite as dark as a black IPA and has more the characteristic nutty brown ale notes, this one is masterly balanced. The roasted barley and coffee notes are integrated seamlessly, transitioning super smoothly in bitter hops which accentuate the bitter mocha experience. Numerous layers of flavour plus an engaging mouthfeel make this one of the standout beers I’ve had to date.

Bottle from notes. Pours a basic brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, chocolate, earthy bitterness, a splash of resin, caramel, hops seem faded, ok.

Bottle. Fortunately no gushing, but took me a while to pour it, heavily carbonated. Aroma was nice when I was pouring it, but after head dropped those are mostly malty and roasted notes, with some delicate resin in background, aroma more like strong stout than black IPA. Nice dark red / brown color. Some citrus notes when tasting, lively carbonation, quickly goes into bitter but unpleasantly astringent finish. Out of style for me, probably one of the worst Black IPAs I’ve had.

Dark Brown with light beige foam head and particles in the ale. The smell is fresh hoppy. The taste is a little too heavy and roasted. The carbonation and bitter notes come a little delayed and a bit too strong against a roasty malt body, that can’t quite match the rest. The aftertaste is a little dry and roasty. A bit overdone in my opinion, but this might be perfect for people who like more aggressive and stronger beers.
