This is a dark, deliciously roasty brew with hints of chocolate in both flavor and aroma. This stout is velevety smooth with a dry, roasted finish.

Bottle: Dark roast coffee and cocoa nose. Nice reddish dark brown color. Starts with a chocolate malt flavor, but lacks body overall. Thin dryish finish. Third try from these guys and I have to say don't bother.

Very dark brown. Plain chocolate and alcohol aroma. Raosted malt and chocolate that don't last and then nothing but water.

CapFlu (5132) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 9, 2003
(Bottle) Opaque. Slightly smoked but mainly cocoa nose. Flavour was cocoa and strangely acidic? Very bitter and ultimately dry.

fraternie (1025) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 26, 2003
Dark body, little head. Dark, roasted chocolate aroma. Oatey, lightly chocolatey aroma but too watery and thin overall. Slightly dry finish with a light touch of hops, smooth.

UnionMade (621) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 26, 2003
Pours a dark reddish brown, with very little head, even in the pour. Nearly black. Aroma is wonderful. Toasty chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of black coffee. Flavor is rich and very smooth. Bittersweet chocolate and black coffee. Body is medium, with mild carbonation and a great smooth mouthfeel. A decent oatmeal stout flavor, with a rich chocolatey flavor. Finish is moderately dry. I'm happy with it, and I'll get it again.

Pours out to a jet black in the glass with no head. Very little carbonation to near flat. Aroma is that of light chocolate and coffee. Taste is good, but thin. I usually expect loads of flavor with an oatmeal stout and this one being oatmeal/chocolate is a little light.

Hopistotle420 (1177) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 14, 2002
Thin beige head. Dark mahogany hue. Roasted malt aroma. Thin bodied, very thin. Nice flavors, but no depth whatsoever.

Roasted malt and chocolate smoke…The skeleton of a stout….......

Kaya161 (1142) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 12, 2001
Not as sweet as I expected, but good. Nice contrast between bitter and sweet. Much too thin on the palate, however.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2004 Nov 2001: Lovely burnt coffe/chocolate aroma; nice-looking brew; flavor disappoints, though -- a bit thin, lacking in the strong flavors you'd expect from the handsome aroma -- very average down the throat. Still, probably this brewer's best -- other VT beermakers are far better.

Jan 2004: Black. Head initially thick and creamy looking, but fades quickly. Very nice aroma, much as before. Creamy mouthfeel is nice, but not a lot of flavor to go with it. Very slight downgrade over 2001 rating; the only one of TR's bottled offerings even remotely worth drinking.
