UPDATED: AUG 10, 2006 12 oz. Bottle, Apr 16, 2006 This is quite clearly labeled as being produced at the Berkeley brewery. Sold at Wild Oats in a six pack with a cylindrical pilsner/alt glass attached. Pours pale straw with a rocky, lacy head on top. Big German hop smell at opening stays with the pour. Lazy stream of bubbles rises through the glass. A nice German malt, with a very, very slight tart note. Kind of a grassy straw taste, finished of by straightforward noble hops bitterness. A solid interpretation of the style, and whod a thought a place in Berkeley would have the discipline to make a pils to precise German engineering standards.<hr>Draft, Sept 18, 2005. Sampled in a solid plastic mug, so I couldnt get a handle on its color. Have to presume its okay. Taste, though, is light and "crisp," like American pale macros claim, but this one really is. But beyond that, not much stands out in the way of hops, just the standard German bitterness against pale malts. Finished nice and dry. Again, an imported pilsner thats probably much better closer to home.
Additional note, Aug 10, 2006. Finishing the sixer, I found that last bottle started to show more nice German hop bitterness. Crisper and cleaner. I think thats worth bumpint the rating up a notch.

Vom fa. Served in a tall fluted Trumer glass. Yella, bubbily with a little white head. Great taste of floral hops, sweet honey bread and a little fruity like strawberries. Fantastic even though the bitterness is very mild for a pils. More dry than bitter. I like it!

Skat-alleviating 6-pack, inter festas bb05/2017. - Hallertauer and Spalter Select used over crisp biscuit malts with a near-Saazy bite. Herbal hops with heft and that "sawdust nettle" edge. Sturdy decocted body without being protein-stodgy. Not refreshing as a Pils per se, but full of character and the obvious choice over overfiltered Urquell when in, or for that matter: near, Old Habsburg dominions. Much underated here imho. Must look into those Mhlviertler hops...

330 ml bottle. Pours clear straw-yellow with a white head. The aroma is grainy. Medium body with soft carbonation and a medium sweetness and low bitterness. The taste is malty (biscuits, dried fruits) and rather simple.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2017 Re-rate after having had a glas from the tap at a restaurant and fresh bottles on NYE: 7/4/7/4/13. Refreshing, flavourful and very nice. Its almost creamy from the tap, fresh bottles come close. Very good, high quality shows through.
Original rating: 6/3/6/4/13
Pours a pale, clear gold with little white head. Aroma of grass, hay, grains, slight notes of lemons, slightly floral. Taste is slightly sweet, turns into light bitterness. Slender, slightly oily body, medium carbonation, dry finish with a pinch of salt, lemons and pleasant light bitterness. This is a light, easily drinkable Pilsner. All different notes in the aroma and taste are very distinguished and balanced. I wouldn?t say it?s a overly special beer, in terms of having unique characteristics that make it stand out. It?s well crafted, pleasant, and goes great with food. My go-to Pils from Austria.
