COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

NOTE: Under this entry, rate ONLY exported Tsingtao that roughly matches the ABV and local Tsingtao that matches it completely. If it differs in any way and doesn’t match the other entries under the brewer, please send in a bug report with the alcohol percentage, degrees plato (important!), the GTIN and preferably a link to a picture of both the front and the back label so that we can set up an entry.

Bottle. 5%. Sweet floral aroma, a little sewer. Yellow colour, unstable white head. Old hop flavour. Watery aftertaste.

JorisPPattyn (10062) - BELGIUM - MAR 27, 2006
Pale gold; heavy pearling to huge, frothy, just-yellowish tinted head. Very malty & grainy nose, faint peppery and grassy. Dull grainy taste, with a markedly spring water flavour. Ends gluey and chaff-like. Watery, spring water quality and inexistant palate. Uninteresting macro-lager. Certainly nowhere "well-hopped". Sheesh!

maniac (3800) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAR 25, 2006
Clear pale golden color with a thin frothy white head. Sweet aroma with some light sour hints. Very smooth flavor of light malts.

1.6
Numenor (871) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 25, 2006
Very pale yellow body, typical of a mass-market beer. Sweet malts and hops in the aroma. Heavy wheat accents in the body. Tea like ending.

Very pale and not particularly sweet. Quite watery but with som hoppiness to the aftertaste. Great for curries, but not much else

bubbleflubber (2235) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - MAR 22, 2006
Very faint lemongrass and sourmash aromas... light gold into the glass, with a quickly dissipating fizziness. It’s definitely sweet, in a powdered sugar sort of way. Too bad the hops are "of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries" (see description), because those breweries must make better use of them than Tsingtao does. There is virtually no hop character to this. It seems a tad overcarbonated, but quenches the thirst well enough, I guess. Maybe one positive is that the dry confectioner’s finish isn’t as cloying as I thought it would be, and it doesn’t hang around forever.

Bloody awful. It had a skunky scent and taste to it. Particles floating in my bottle. I didn’t even finish the bottle and poured it down the sink...

bottle - There’s nothing impressive here. It’s a bit sweet, lacking in hops, and it’s basically yet another pale, fizzy, yellow beer. In my opinion it’s better than a bud, but that’s not saying a whole lot. Have it with your Chinese food occasionally and otherwise don’t bother.

dj (625) - Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 18, 2006
UPDATED: AUG 24, 2006 Bottle, 330ml. A pale yellow colour with a medium-sized head. A musty, citric aroma. Taste of hops with some sweetness and a hint of rice. A citric finish. Moderate carbonation. A perfectly acceptable, refreshing lager.
