Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

NOTE: Under this entry, rate ONLY exported Tsingtao that roughly matches the ABV and local Tsingtao that matches it completely. If it differs in any way and doesn’t match the other entries under the brewer, please send in a bug report with the alcohol percentage, degrees plato (important!), the GTIN and preferably a link to a picture of both the front and the back label so that we can set up an entry.

Typical boring mass produced beer, with the special bonus that the green bottle makes it easily skunked. I can’t believe they export this all the way to the US. We have plenty of our own bad beer here, and cheaper!

A couple of bottles in the Canton restaurant in Soho. I have drunk this many times before, but this is the first since rating commenced. I was pretty blasted at this point, but I know that it perfectly complemented the superb food. It's s macro lager with malt, some hops and a gentle rice flavour that I think adds to the mouthfeel. It's one that I will always happily have in a Chinese restaurant.

Bottle. Green. Pours light and clear yellow. Nose is a bit skunky. Flavors of acid water with a hint of hops. Drinkable only with spicy Asian food.

So, not the greatest start beerwise to the new year; the only new rate in a 4-pack of world lagers that my generous and thoughtful (but beer-unaware) boss gave me for Christmas. It pours clear yellow with a swiftly-vanishing white head and an aggressive fizz. Sweetcorn very much to the fore in the aroma and taste. There's a hint of honey malt and maybe a vague wisp of grassy hop but the sweetcorn really does overwhelm it. Too sweet and too corny; an unpleasant brew. Still grateful for the unexpected gift though.

A watery pilsner with a light herbal taste. Somewhere between sweet and bitter. I drank it from a bottle in a Chinese restaurant.

330ml bottle, 4,7% ABV Swedish label. Clear pale golden with white head. Aroma is slightly fruity with grains, yeast and light hops distinguishable. Taste is fruity and slightly buttery with grains, light fruity yeast and floral hops. Light mouthfeel, light carbonation and very light fruity aftertaste. Not very impressive, but also not really that had - like a lot of the global giants.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2017 Rating taken from my 1001 Beers book where I’ve scrawled “refreshing, but bland”. I guess I was referring to the dryness that comes with a lot of Asian beers. It is indeed a very, very light beer.

Love this beer. Wish it was easily sold in all stores. It's hard to find. I can only find it in Asian restaurants.

jooilakon (318) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 16, 2017
Pint at North China restaurant, Acton. Aromas are malts with citrus notes. Clear golden body and small white head. Taste is crisp malts with a citrus finish. OK lager.

From the green bottle with no date that I can see. Bright, yellow, heady pour with excellent clarity and active carbonation. Slightly skunked aroma due to the green bottle but when I put that aside I get a toasted bread and grassy character. The texture is light and fresh. The taste is grainy, sweet, with a nice clean, crisp hop sensation. What more can you ask for in a beer of this style?

Very nice beer, different from the rest! Has a very nice taste and something that you can drink large quantities of with reduced side effects compared to other lager! Chinese beer is great and this is a real tribute to it, you can really taste the rice in it with a tad of sweetness.
