COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A religious experience
Originally brewed by monks fleeing the French Revolution, this classic Belgian beer sparked its own revolution when Carl Vasta first introduced it in 2001 to an unsuspecting public who weren’t ready for its sensory onslaught. Thank God he didn’t ditch the recipe, as this strong golden ale with notes of clove and orange now has a beloved place in the Tuatara line-up.

Taste: Complex, nice sweetness, spicy phenolics of clove and orange.
Look: Pale golden amber
Aroma: Orange & spice
Try With: Smoked salmon
Hops: Goldings, Pacific Gold.
Malt: NZ Lager, NZ Ale

500ml bottle. Pours bright straw colour. Clove, orange peel, black pepper, bread, sweet honey, quite floral. Big and yeasty. Nice.

Lizard bomber from Liquor King Carlton in Christchurch. Clear bright golden color with a lacy one-finger white head and some effervescent bubbles. Great aroma, yeasty, fruity esters, floral notes, candi sugar. The flavor has sweet Bartlett pear, candy apple, and a yeasty finish with just a well-integrated touch of hop bitterness. Smooth and creamy yet lively mouthfeel. Wow, from the opposite corner of the world comes a true-to-style tripel, packing legit Belgian flavor and aroma, polished and virtually flawless. Impressive.

Bottle. Yellow golden color, hazy liquid. Oak barrel aroma, earthy. Alcohol is well hidden. Excellent.

500 ml bottle pours a hazy golden color without much head. Sweetness and mild belgian yeast flavors. A little alcohol harshness.

Bottle from Stewarts Wine Company December 2013. This is one seriously tasty beer. Deep golden colour with spiced fruit in the aroma and creamy mouthfeel.

Clear gold colour with a skim of white head across the top of the beer. The aroma is so typical of style, it is done extremely well: basement, banana and fruity esters and spices. Rich and unctuous in the mouth with tangs of banana bread and grapefruit citrus. Thick body and spicy finish. Tasty stuff.

Bottle from Beer Cartel (Jan 2014). Bright, clear golden/copper, minimal white head, funky Belgian yeast, banana, sourdough, honey, spicy bitterness, nice.

Exactly what you’d expect from a kiwi style belgian tripel; clear, smooth beer with a fruity finish, in my opinion better than the belgian equivalents.
