COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wheat beers have been around for centuries, but you can still startle unsuspecting New Zealanders with a good one. Most beer malts are barley-based, but a portion of wheat in the mash results in a sweeter, cloudier base. In combination with a Weinstephan yeast, this produces distinctive flavours of ripe banana, vanilla and clove. (Dont be alarmed, they all do that.) Hop additions are used to balance the sweetness, but things never get bitter like the Australians when they lose the cricket.

Bottled. A hazy straw yellow beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has notes of bananas and cloves, as well as a bit of soap. The flavor is sweet with notes of wheat, cloves, and bananas - leaning on being over ripe, leading to a dry wheaty finish where a light note of lemon comes along.

Draught at The Malthouse, Wellington. Cloudy golden, small head. Aroma of bubblegum and banana. Malty with restricted sweetness. Its very soft and drinkable, and the esters are strong, but not overpowering. An excellently balanced session beer!

Bottle. It pours a clear, golden body and a small, white head. Bubble gum and banana on the nose, some pale malts and lemon. The flavor is pretty much the same, with some bitterness. Quite metallic towards the end. Medium body, effervescent. A rather mediocre hefeweizen that doesnt impress in any way, but it competes easily with a few of the German ones. 110416

Cloudy dull yellow. Smells footy...too much yeast. The body is fairly full, but still on the yeasty side of things. Touch style to nail.
