ALLOVATE (2932) - Perth, - NOV 16, 2012
Sunny gold and bright as bright. Well fuelled, persistent fluffy white head drabs a cloud of foam down the glass. Aroma a blend of peppery, herbal hops, lemon zest and toasted grains. Soft, foamy mouthfeel and very light bodied. Fresh chilled it was dry, dusty and dominated by a New Zealand hop back end that is fruity, citric and herbaceous low bitterness, also peppery especially after the swallow. Malt sweetens as it warms. Very easy drinking, balanced and quaffable. Dont quite get that they grasped a Deutsches Helles but a tasty lager none the less! (33cL, BB 29/09/12, Freo Doctor)

330ml bottle. Pours like a fizzy lager. Aroma is sharp, a little vegetal and some apple fruitiness. Flavour is vegetal, quite sharp, a little too savoury. It is a remarkably good interpretation of the helles style, but thats not a great thing.

330ml bottle into glass. Pepper hop nose. Pale yellow beer with thin bubbly head. Medium carbonation. Sweet grainy taste, finish is light malt. Sparkly sweet quaffer.

Okay head and yellow body. Cardboard lager aroma like weve seen ten thousand times before (or something. Yeah, Im not up to ten thousand ratings, but it smells like that smell you get from lagers like this. So there). Flavour is mild and sharp, a bit of lemon, smoothness. Unintrusive. Drinkable. Forgettable.

Bottle from Drink? Hebden Bridge. Yellow-blonde with a small head. Includes a healthy tasting lager malt with lots of sweet berry aromas.

This one seems to be the weak link in the otherwise outstanding Tuatara range. Weak aroma and stewed vegetable flavour makes it taste like a generic eurofizz lager.

Really underwhelmed by this. I have yet to taste a lager in these crafty times that is worthy of the price and the rare opportunity I have to sample something interesting. Thats probably the worst thing - I only have time for 1, and this is no different to a Heineken or Steinlager.

Craft Islington. Keg. Bright clear gold beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and crispy. Nice fresh tasting bready pale malts. Light lager character. Modest citrus and light floralness. Clean crisp and drinkable. Nice Helles.
