Tuatara Indian Pale Ale is brewed using the finest New Zealand malt imparting to the beer a full-bodied malt character yet still retaining the light color of the style. Classic English variety hops are used to produce the traditional high bitterness, flavor and aroma enjoyed in this style. This is a strong ale with 5% alcohol.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 13/20
ben4321 (6506) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Location: 11.2 oz bottle from State Line, 1/31/13, Rating #111 of the Month!

Aroma: The nose is fairly subtle, with some clean pale malts and some citrus hops
Appearance: Pours an unclear orange-amber with a rather large, pillowy, heavily laced, off-white head
Flavor: The taste is a little bit sweet, a little malty, mildly spicy, and with a bit of earthy hop
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a decent mouthfeel, but a little too much carbonation
Overall Impression: I felt like this was a half decent example of a British-style IPA. (Which, if you let him, jcos can go on a 30 minute rant about how it should be it’s own style.) Anyway, back from that digression, there are some good components here, but some flaws too, and it obviously doesn’t have the in-your-face hops that an American IPA fan would prefer in the style. Still though, it is a solid, drinkable beer.

Idiosynkrasie (7516) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - FEB 28, 2017
330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, amber colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Citrusy fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of lemon, some orange, a resinous touch. Taste is citrusy fruity, hoppy, moderately bitter, notes of lemon, hints of orange, a resinous touch, caramel malty background; abrupt, quasi non-existent finish, only a minimally metallic impression remains...

5%ABV. IPA. Poured out amber. 12ºSRM. Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate is light and clean with pale malt, light sweetness suggesting lightly browned toast, wonderbread and sweet dough, keep in mind that the sweet is light but the palate has a nice ponderous sweet bready body. So it’s not all light and sweet. There is a nice slightly sour, fruity body to the palate which suggests juice, maybe some fresh-squeezed orange, especially a cloudy milky fresh-squeezed juice with a lot of pith. YOverall very sour and lemon juicy as far as the palate goes. Hops are resinous, pine, bitter melon, there is an emphasis on bitter rather than the pine or the citrus. So not so much on the parent aromatics and more emphasis on the bitter betas. Finish is medium with a clean bitter back of the throat bitter, which I have come to associate with Columbus. Goes on Favorites List!

Overall, quite an earthy ale. Green melon, orange, lemon, pineapple, floral. Sweet at the front, orange, wood and pine at the back. All flavours and aromas are on the light side and the body is fairly thin, which makes it a very drinkable quencher.

Samtzu (448) - Palmerston North, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 5, 2016
330ml bottle. Pours a crisp gold with little head. Slight bitterness with some fruit flavours coming through.

shoulderbroken (4255) - Tokyo, JAPAN - NOV 24, 2016
Tap at Grub. Pretty English feel to it, light maltiness, minerals, bit of pineapple, toffee, touch of spice. Some kind of real ale yeastiness. Nice to start off but then fades a little.

mpeacey (17) - NEW ZEALAND - NOV 8, 2016
Amber pour with long lasting head. Caramel & hops aroma. Dry taste with pleasant maltiness. Finish is strong, dry, lingering bitterness.
