There’s something uniquely appealing about the idea of a refreshing, sessionable ale tailor-made for the South Pacific Summer. On the other hand there is nothing appealing at all about a flavourless beer. With the intention of organising the former without risking the latter, Tuatara has created Outrigger. Beautifully pale in the pour it’s loaded with suitably tropical hints of passionfruit, pineapple and mango emanating from the latest Australian Galaxy hops. Beach your canoe somewhere shady and enjoy.

Taste: Distinct hints of passionfruit, pineapple and mango
Try With: Crispy skinned snapper or pipi fritters
Hops: Galaxy, Enigma, Victorias Secret, Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, Ella, Motueka
Malt: NZ Pilsner, NZ Wheat

beer4eternity (226) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 23, 2016
330ml bottle on the Interislander Ferry to Picton with happy holiday vibes. Nice clear to opaque straw hue with some sediment and a very generous gushy white lasting head and fully lasting sticky lacing. Wonderful tropical fruit aromas are centre stage with a nice biscuit malt background. Moderately bitter, mildly sweet. Dry finish. Enjoyable.

GoufCustom (2354) - HONG KONG - AUG 28, 2016

330 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Looks: Clear light golden colour with faint traces of particles; One and a quarter finger head and crumpety white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Beautiful sticky lacing with active slight carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant malt, with passion fruits, jackfruit, citrus, floral, fructose, lemon and strong fresh grass.

Taste: Light sweet Pils malt, with moderate grapefruits, passion fruits, floral, light molasses, biscuits, herbs, lime, strong bitter hops and strong fresh grass.

Body: Mid to light. Slick and smooth palate.

Mouth Feel: Solid Pils maltyness in a slightly thick background. Very smooth, with moderate but very fruity citrus sourness and passion fruits. Flowery, pretty light sweet with strong fresh herbal limey finish. Clean and beautiful!

Hoppiness: passion fruits, jackfruit, citrus, floral, lemon and strong fresh grass in nose. Grapefruits, passion fruits, floral, herbs, lime and fresh grass in taste; Bitterness is strong for a lasting, close to high astringent fruity malty finish.

After Taste: Dry. Limey, grassy and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one has a long list of exotics hops in the mix, and while it doesn’t push the likes of Engima and Ella to the limits, the neat tropical fruit and fructose aroma with nice limey grassy herba taste make a smooth and enjoyable tasting. Highly recommended!
