Draft at the source. Pretty much black, beige head, see pic please. Aroma of burnt brownies. Taste is pine needles dipped in espresso. Dry finish. Tasty. DiarmaidBHK (5716) - Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 4, 2013
Draft at brewpub. Black IPA’s are the Shimmer floor wax of the beer world. "It’s a floor wax and a desert topping!" In trying to combine a porter/stout and IPA they usually lean more towards one than the other. (Typically IPA) thus one leans more stout. Whatever hoppinness is presented on the nose soon fades and serves very much a secondary feature to the roasted malts on the tongue. UPDATED: JUL 2, 2012 Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy brown head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was rough fruity and floral hops, a bit of maltiness adn a touch roasty. The flavor was bitter, roasty and a bit dry with fairly strong harsh fruity and floral hops and touches of molasses and anise. Long roasty and hoppy finish. Medium body. Not good but decent by black IPA standards - which is like being the smartest guy in special ed. Beerathon (1683) - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 13, 2012
The best Black IPA I’ve ever had. Pours a nice deep brown/ruby color with a huge hop nose. Great lingering hoppiness on the tongue. Not dry at all. Tanish head with sticky lacing. Can smells malt that remind you of a Porter.
Bought a growler full to go.
