Tap. Black with tan head. Nice malt backbone with some bitterness balancing it out. Dogbrick (12936) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 15, 2013
Sample at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. Brownish-black color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops and sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall. ryanolson82 (2) - - JUL 15, 2013 does not count
On draft at Tap House Grill, lots of chocolate notes in aroma and taste. Very strong roast aroma as well. Slight toffee finish. Overall a solid black ale. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - JUN 4, 2013
Sample Bottle:   Deep brown, small tannish head, little lacing.   Combination fruity and chocolate malt nose.   Not terribly hoppy or bitter, at least in the aroma.   Fruity start, apple skin, roasted malts, but not all that biting.   Seems almost more in common with a lighter Imperial Stout than a Black IPA.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   A bit more hops on the finish, soft, not too biting.   Malts die down at this point.   Seems all over the place.   Starts out like a weak Imperial Stout, cept that its a bit more fruity.   Lacks the hop punch so common in the style.   Yet finishes with a bit more bitterness and black/chocolate malt one comes to expect.   Decent, but seems to vary widely from start to finish. Nice dark black in color, thin tan head nice dark malts and good IPA hops this was very tasty.
Nose of ashy malt pine ink and something undescribable - wet cardboard? Pours black with a tan head. Flavors of ashy malt and floral bittering hops. Actually more bitterness than flavor. Thin. "Meh" (Jon, 2009). after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - MAR 17, 2012
