This is a surprising beer! Get one if you can. Pour it over ice cream if you dare. SDalkoholic (2393) - Linda Vista, California, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Bottle from South Bay Liquor: I wish I would have noticed this beer back during Christmas time as it was obviously released but often times I look right past Manzanita’s bottle selection since they aren’t top notch in my opinion—not at that level yet at least. Aroma is bursting of fragrance and smells thick of chocolate and peppermint and reminds me of warm memories of peppermint ice cream or candy cane scents. Liquid is a dark brownish black and creates a thick lasting foam head that only a truly crafted beer would create. The drink shocks me with a smooth minty menthol flavor of peppermint as if I just ate a few pieces of Junior Mints candy. Really delivers on the taste of both mint and chocolate and has to be one of thee best chocolate mint stouts I have come across. This puts Stone’s attempt at a chocolate mint imperial stout to shame and that’s real deal holyfield. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - DEC 22, 2011
Very dark brown with a creamy light brown head. Huge spearmint and light peppermint and chocolate aroma and taste with some candy and roasted grain notes and a bright lightly sticky palate. Really quite a nice beer. bhensonb (15191) - Woodland, California, USA - JAN 13, 2013
Bottle (2012 edition) from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. (Buy one from Fred!) Pours nearly black with a dark tan head. Aroma of mild peppermint over chocolate. Med + body. Flavor is smooth dark burnt malt with some peppermint and some chocolate struggling to come forth. I like this. The peppermint is not over done. Finishes drier than not. Good stuff. On tap at brewery. Dark black pour with dense sticky tan head. Nose is chocolate and mint. Taste is Lotsa peppermint with chocolate and cocoa behind. Fear of overpowering mint faded immediately. Becomes just a piece of it, not the focal point. Well done.

Bottle. Pours black with tan brown head. Nice lacing. Nose of peppermint patties, candy cane, roast chocolate malt and vanilla. Taste is same with peppermint up front followed by chocolate and vanilla. Medium body. Dry candy cane finish. BobbyAnalog (334) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 23, 2012
Had this beer in Manzanita’s tasting room. They served this stout in a glass so warm it felt like they had burned a candle in it, so the beer wasn’t able to give its best interview, but it still showed off some serious attitude. Peppermint candy and warm chocolate undertones collide in a dessert brew that would make for an amazing beer float. Night Before Xmas has the appearance of a panther’s coat; it’s black, silkiness indicative of the stout’s rich flavor. A good bet to be a future Manzanita favorite. anders37 (26625) - Malmö, SWEDEN - APR 11, 2013
