Pours a copper color with a khaki colored head. The nose starts off with mild vanilla and whiskey. There’s some caramel and toffee notes, along with hints of oak and fruit. Mild oxidation is present as well. The flavor is sugary, almost a touch grainy. Carmel and sugar, light toffee and vanilla. Very restrained whiskey, some oak, light oxidation, and a touch of fruit. bhensonb (15849) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 4, 2011
Bottle from Beverages4Less in Santee, CA. Visit Fred and buy something. This is self-interest - not shilling. As his business increases, there will be more and better beers for me to get. Cap wax is challenging. Pours ruddy copper with a creamy off-white head - very little head. Love the brown shugga aroma. Near full body. Very creamy brown sugar flavor - fair toffee flavor - some wood, but it’s very mild. The whole thing is quite mild and rich, with virtually no heat, and yet there’s a back of the throat impact like taking a shot of clean Crown Royal. Which takes me back oh so many years. Finish is not nearly so sticky sweet as many barleywines. Quite enjoyable. DSG (15301) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - MAR 16, 2015
[2/15/15] Draught at Toronado in San Francisco. As Twisted Manzanita Serenity. Dark brown. Sourish aroma with malt, dark fruits, oak and hops. Sweet-sourish flavor, a bit boozy, with malt, dark fruits, wood, tannins and bitter hops. Medium to full-bodied. Tmoney99 (15036) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 18, 2015
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark fruit, toasted malt, bourbon alcohol and wood aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate dark fruit bourbon sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a complex good beer.

(Bottle) Pours a clear orange body with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherry, raisins, caramel, toffee, and oak. Flavor of caramel, vanilla, licorice, raisins, toffee, and oak with plenty of alcohol burn in the finish. hopdog (13102) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 11, 2013
Bottle. Deep amber, brown color with an off white head. Vanilla, some wood, caramel, dark fruits, and whiskey. A little sweet, but not cloying with some alcohol in the finish. slowrunner77 (12998) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 24, 2014
a couple years on the bottle. Whiskey presence is very light compared to some of the boozy monsters out there. Strong, but no way did you think this was 12%. Light oak and whiskey aroma, more straight forward malt assault with a good dose of bittering hops for a 2-y-o beer. Classic american barleywine for the most part, with the barreling coming through pretty lightly in the flavor too. Nice."
