Expensive as hell waxed 12oz bottle. It pours a nearly clear deep pale copper with thin near white head. The aroma offers up a bouquet of sweet sticky malts, some pine hops and then coconut and then a smooth whiskey sensation. The taste is just solid. I get aged sweet malts and pine hop flavor mixing with a mild level of pine hop bitterness. Those notes slide into smooth rich and candy like sweet whiskey as well as a bit of coconut. Nice stuff here creating a tasty balance between the yummy base beer and the barrel treatment. Kudos for not over barrel aging this like sooooo many other brews out there. Body is an Amber sunburst with a thin off white ring around the upper edge of the spot where the beer meets the glass.
I like the aroma on this quite a bit, caramel sweetness with some whiskey whispers.
Caramel rolled in brown sugar, whiskey and oak are prominent (<3), not as deep and rich as the aroma indicated but just as sweet and alcoholic, the strong alcohol is nice just needs a bit more richness.
Mouthfeel is granular medium-dense.
I liked this beer, if you like alcoholic barleywines you should go buy some. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - OCT 6, 2011
Clear reddish amber with a creamy white head. Sweet molasses and whiskey aroma and taste with a dry earthy vanilla oak and whiskey finish. Blairgus (4615) - California, USA - MAR 8, 2014
8 Mar 2014, tap at Manzanita Brewing. Ruby, clear, no bubbles. Nose is huge raisin and alcohol and fruitcake! Med body and moderately fizzy. Wow! Fruitcake. Heavy nuts, moderate fruit. Wow! Alcohol isn't really prominent. Really good!

waxed 12 oz bottle (double waxed?) from Bev4less. Pours a resplendent deep amber color with a small beige head that immediately dissipates to a fine ring. The aroma is dominated by watered down whiskey and some sweet malts. The flavor is complex whiskey with peat, leather, anise, molasses and some tobacco leaf. The mouthfeel is silky smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long with a lingering whiskey aftertaste. overall: Very nice complex barleywine, I’m gonna have to try aging one of these. A good sipper.

Bottle pours medium brown-orange with thin brief white head. Aroma caramel apples with hint of bourbon. Taste brown sugar, caramel with fruits, some bourbon and a nice hop bite. Palate medium-thick with slight carbonation. Finish a mix of sweetness and hops.Ober (2811) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - SEP 4, 2012
I liked this one, definitely hoppier than the English barleywines but not so muxh as to be overbearing. Just a touch of bourbon.
