A light smoke aroma.. This has a fair amount of smoke , it’s noticeable but not overpowering. A definite peaty flavor to it. Some hops as well. A lot of peppers in the finish. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - OCT 19, 2012
Courtesy of hellbilly. Pours up with an amber body supporting a tan colored head of foam. The aroma has sweet malts, sweet apple esters, some chili pepper notes and a mild level of smooth smoke. The taste delivers sweet fruity esters, sweet malts and then a firm level of chili pepper notes and chili pepper heat. In between those notes are smooth smoky bacony goodness. I noticed that after a few quaffs the chili heat spreads harmlessly to the lips. Nice stuff. bhensonb (15190) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 4, 2011
Bomber from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Pours very dark brown with a monolayer of tan that left rapidly. Aroma of smoked malt. Can’t make out rye. LIght pepper aroma. Full bodied. Boy this stuff has some pepper, and now I get the smoked rye. Brewer should either get a medal or be arrested for tongue abuse. I highly recommend the experience. jtclockwork (16581) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 21, 2013
Bottle. Pours reddish very dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of smoked rye, roast chocolate, chili pepper, ash, vanilla and dried smoked bacon. Finishes with some moderate pepper heat. Lots of roast. Medium body. Best beer I’ve had from them. Solid brew. skmikeg (1826) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 5, 2011
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2014 Pours a dark brown-black wtih a foamy tan head. aroma is mainly of smoke with some pepper, roasted malts, and some carmel. Taste is dominated by smoke with some peppers on the finnsih and some roasted malts, and some rye notes. Has a medium body with a oily, creamy mouthfeel., and a slick, spciy finnish. overall, a very interesting and tasty combniation of two styles, smoked and peper beers.

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Filled my pint glass with a dark and opaque brown liquid that created a minimum amount of foam on top as a head. In the aroma, my nose picks up on an instant scent of perfectly smoked black malts that has mouth starting to salivate. The flavor is initially tart while a mild base of blackened malts is really the only highlight of the drink since the smoke seems not to even be noticeable anymore. An okay attempt at a smoke/rauchbier that is well balanced and easily quaffable, but I need more smokiness other than a light aftertaste finish in order to give a higher rating.

Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a tan head. Chili and caramel aroma with light smoke. Caramel and chili flavor. Medium bodied. Chilis and caramel linger with light smoke. JoePeesie (925) - Long Lake, Illinois, USA - FEB 1, 2013
Pours a mahogany brown with a touch of off white head. Nice lightly smokey spicy nose. Taste is of rye with a touch of smoke. Not much sip invests from the peppers until the end, they leave a nice little after burn on the end. Very nicely balanced. I’m a fan. hopscotch (11078) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - NOV 19, 2014
Bottle... Pours nearly black with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Decent retention. The aroma is a fusion of campfire smoke, dark chocolate, toasted tree nuts, caramel, earthy spiciness and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied and very effervescent. The flavor is dense and clean, featuring notes of deep-roasted malt, spicy graininess and throat-warming chili peppers. Finishes lightly bitter and radiant. Rock-solid, well crafted beer. Flaked chile peppers and some coarse, peppered rye ensure that this ale is a savory, complex, well oiled machine. This ale pops with flavor. A solid, stiff mouthfeel and some palpable heat jab your tongue like an Ali left hook. One of the better bats in Manzanita’s lineup.
