Bottle at a friends BBQ - meh, I’m not a fan of brown ales, and the honey in here isn’t really helping the cause - I guess the earthiness of the honey is there, but it doesn’t really work with the chocolate and roasted nut character of your typical brown ale - a bit of maple syrup - a bit too sweet, and lacking depth. Bottle from Whip-In. Pours a dark brownish red color with a bubbly white head. Aroma is of roasted malts, some nuts and decent malts. Not a bad smell. Flavor is roasted malts big time with a slightly ashy finish. There is lots of nutty flavors and dark caramel malts. The burnt flavor fills in on the finish and lasts for awhile. Wish the finish was better. cubs (10740) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 11, 2011
Tap @ brewery. Caramel brown appearance with a tan head. Sweet toffee, lightly nutty, honey, caramel malty aroma. Mild honey, light caramel malty, slightly bitter, lightly nutty flavor. corby112 (2813) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 19, 2011
Draft at the brewpub.
Pours a hazy dark brown color with a one finger off-white head that quickly fades into a thin ring. minimal lacing.
Slighty toasty aroma with dark malt notes and subtle crisp hops. Hints of toast, toffee, nut and caramel but I’m not picking up any honey.
Medium bodied and slightly roasted with some dark malts and faint sweetness. Hints of toast, caramel, cocoa, hazelnut and toffee along with subtle honey flavor. Toward the end of the palate there is a crisp hop bite that adds a touch of bitterness to the finish. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - JUL 25, 2013
Bottle; poured a dark orange/brown color. Aroma was sweet, with honey and veggies. Flavor was sweet with some honey and veggies. Didn’t quite work.

Sampler at Twisted Pine. Appearance: small tan head, red/brown color, clear. Aroma: spice, metallic, light honey. Palate: light body, slightly watery yet oily texture, metallic finish. Taste: light sweetness throughout. Overall, unimpressive. Westmeister (2127) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 24, 2014
Dark mohangeny pour with mocha head. Taste is slightly nutty with a fairly uneventful malt base. Bits of metal but rather bland and not really sweet at all. Volgon (2761) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 7, 2002

Body-reddish body with a thin ring of bubbles and medium film of bubbles., Nose-cereal, malt extract. Taste-everything is muted and medium, lightly sour, murning, medium sweet, blah, thin. RSRIZZO (2034) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - DEC 1, 2007
Had this beer on 3/30/1999. Color is a deep brown with low carbonation and a thin head. Aroma is a nice sweet roasted malt scent. Taste is rich and sweet. It starts with a medium body that goes down heavy with a bit of bite. The finish is a sweet malt flavor with a rich alcohol taste to it and a light bitterness.
