22oz bottle: Pours a mostly opaque black with dark mahogany edges and a large, clumpy-lacing froth of light tan head. Has a semi-sweet toasted dark caramel malty nose with a hint of light roast and plenty of earthy resiny hops. Body starts with pretty good fullness and lively carbonation with mild sweetness, quickly giving way to a more bitter resiny hop flavor with a hint of acetone. Finishes dry with some lingering bitterness. Pretty true to style, but could be a little cleaner.
Pours two fingers of head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is pine, roasted malt and a bit of chocolate.
The taste has a solid bitterness throughout, a stronger sweet note in the middle and a mild bitter finish.
The texture softer.
Great aroma and nice flavor. DenverLogan (1211) - LA, California, USA - JAN 9, 2016
Tasted June 1, 2014 at an industry event. Pours dark brown with moderate head and lace. Aroma of dark malts, flowery hops. Moderate carbonation and significant mouthfeel. Flavors of dark roasted malts, bitter chocolate, straw and grassy hops. Overall big, bold, complex with some bitter notes. hopdog (12451) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 23, 2015

Nice bitter taste that is growing in me as I drink more. Rich color and very thick head. Dorwart (2585) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - FEB 22, 2015
Nice strong light brown head of dense and creamy bubbles. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were some oats in the grain bill. Dry and dusty aroma with some milk chocolate, malted milk balls, toasted grains and light anise. Not much hops presence but this brew may be a bit on the older side. Color is a very dark brown with a hint of red along the edges. Medium bodied with lots of toasty flavors. Some dark chocolate, burnt toast, moderate bitterness (grapefruit pith) and spruce. Light lingering bitterness and very little alcohol presence. A decent black IPA, but when you factor in the clearence price of $1.99 for a bomber, it makes this beer a bit better! ;)

Pours a dark brown with light brown head. Has a chcolate and coffee aroma. Taste is a mic of coffee, hops, and grains. A bitter hop and grain aftertaste. Hops missing added flavor in this beer. madmitch76 (24431) - , Essex, ENGLAND - NOV 7, 2014

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leightonian. Opaque black brown beer, mahoosive pale tan head. Palate is minerally crisp and semi dry. Thin and mild dark malts, mellow coffee tang. Hops are a recessed floral bitter affair. Also a touch of bitter marmalade. Airy finish. Not bad.
Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, thanks to Leighton, 04/11/14.
Extremely dark mahogany brown with a big old light tan covering that retains well.
Nose is brown bread, light pine, nutty, bitter citric, grapefruit, hint of coffee.
Taste comprises bitter tropicals, earthy tones, mineral wash, faint soap, pine, light charr.
Medium bodied, spritzy and overcarbed, semi drying close laced with earthy hop bitterness.
Adequate CDA but lower order in the grand scheme of things.
