COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Reilly’s Oak Whiskey Red gets its distinguished flavor from aging in Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels for up to one year. The aroma of bourbon jumps out at you, followed by delicate toffee. The flavor is rich and complex, with slight vanilla, oak and caramel. This medium bodied ale has a lovely pale ruby color and creamy, off-white head. The finish is clean with a slight warming sensation.

Aroma is pleasant with hints of bourbon and vanilla. Pours dark red in color. Hints of vanilla along with bourbon to start then finishes very smooth with a nice warming feeling like a sip of good bourbon. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. no bottling date. Mostly clear chestnut pour with a big spongy foam. Nose is vanilla toffee, light oak and chocolate. Tastes of whiskey, vanilla toffee and occasional lightly soured berry. A touch of cocoa and oak in the long finish. Near-medium body leans big towards the vanilla aspect of the barrel but isn’t overly sweet or boozy. One of the best in the style, but needs a more flavorful beer to properly do battle with the barrel. Medium-plus fizz is a bit much at times, but mostly under control

Bottle from somewhere. Poured into a snifter at home. Pours a deep reddish brown which was mostly opaque. Very thick pillow head that laced sporadically. Aroma was decent with oak barrel, booze, malts, caramel, dark breads, nuts, and earth. The taste was all over the place however. It was certainly aged in oak whiskey barrels which is cool but the beer that was aging had a lot left to be desired. The malts and hops were not balanced at all. There was a metallic taste, almost alkaline. Medium light in body and not boozy. Really it just had a weird mouth feel, palate, and overall taste. Not my style.

ick. not at all what i expected based on the description (or the $$$). overly metallic aromas, hardly any oak or whiskey there... taste/palate is thin and again metallic. just sort of gross. not awesome at all. a major let down.

As soon as I opened the bottle I could smell the whiskey aging. Its almost over powering, in a good way. I am a fan of the style and anything whiskey barrel aged is a good time for me. The taste is whiskey and smooth, but could use a little bit more robust flavor for whatever that means. Easy to drink and I would order this again for sure. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Twisted Pine. Ruby pour with an off-white head. Aromas of whiskey, green apple, and booze. Some vanilla and caramel sweetness, oak, and fruits. Flavor is dominated by alcohol, whiskey, and green apple. Mostly green apple. Some sweet caramel and toffee. A touch of vanilla. Meh.

On tap @ Twisted Pine. Pours a reddish orange appearance with a tan head. Sweet caramel, a bit fruity, apple aroma. Fairly sweet, caramel, toffee, herbal flavor. Blah.

Bottle. Pours hazy dark brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is odd - once I read the description, I see why. The toffee and bourbon really come through, especially the toffee. Bourbon really comes through in the taste, but little else does. Not my type of beer.

nimbleprop (8382) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - OCT 29, 2012
Sampled at GABF. Pours a translucent, brick red with some off white head. Malty aroma, whiskey, vanilla. Flavor is watered down vanilla, malt, caramel. Watery, thin finish. Wanted more.
