12 oz. no bottling date. Mostly clear chestnut pour with a big spongy foam. Nose is vanilla toffee, light oak and chocolate. Tastes of whiskey, vanilla toffee and occasional lightly soured berry. A touch of cocoa and oak in the long finish. Near-medium body leans big towards the vanilla aspect of the barrel but isn’t overly sweet or boozy. One of the best in the style, but needs a more flavorful beer to properly do battle with the barrel. Medium-plus fizz is a bit much at times, but mostly under control SpudClampDawg (1029) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - JUN 7, 2006
Draft @ brewpub: Fiery red pour with a small, diminishing head. A light whiskey note is evident in both the nose and body, adding an interesting element to the brew. The body also shows notes of wine, molasses, caramel, nut and toasted malts. I wish the body was a little more full, and these flavors were combined a bit more. This shows quite a bit of promise. UPDATED: OCT 15, 2010 Sample at the Beer ’N Rock Band tasting on 08/27/2010: The beer is a clear reddish-amber color with a thick and fluffy beige head that burns away slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Caramel malt aroma with a bit of oak. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt and caramel, mild hops and a hint of bourbon. The finish is malty with a lingering sweetness left over. Decent beer overall. Nekronos (4175) - Xalapa, MEXICO - APR 17, 2014
Very nice in flavour, in aroma too. Very heavy in features but ver good brewed this one. TAR (2765) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - SEP 20, 2006
Draft: Brick red. Dense and sticky off-white cream. Pineapple and bready malt aromas with hints of whiskey, vanilla and caramel. Silky and creamy on the palate, but fairly watery. Slickly fruity esters soften the wood-derived tannins which lightly skim the palate. Bready malts abound, but fail to contribute any textural weight. Bright and succulent hop elements outweigh what little brashness exudes. Plums and bright peach acidity complement the tannins and underline the dainty vanilla sweetness. Vibrant malts prolong the brief but effective caramelized wood sensations. Finishes softly and well-rounded with pulpy peach notes and a balancing kiss of nutty malts. Suffers a bit due to the thinness, but this is delightfully understated, cohesive and well-crafted.

Bottle. Pours clear mahogany with a small, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (caramel, bread, cookie), light hops (flowers), average yeast (dough) with notes of dates, oak, vanilla, and whiskey. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JAN 8, 2010
(Draught) Pours a deep red body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, wood, whiskey, peat, toasted grain, and nuts. Flavor of wood, caramel malt, and whiskey. JaBier (7972) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - SEP 12, 2010
Bottle shared by Dogbrick. Clear red pour with a huge tan head. Caramel malt nose with a hint of cherry along with some oaky vanilla. Flavor starts with oaky vanilla, then becomes fruit before a bit of hop at the end. Aside from a thin and weak finish, pretty solid brew. bhensonb (15194) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 12, 2010
Pours hazy red with a foamy beige head. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is very oaky, perhaps a bit bourbon, and there is a roast malt with a touch of chocolate. Moderately bitter finish. Sammy (12205) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 13, 2011
Seasonal just put on at brewery’s tasting room. Sour mash bourbon so getting that sourness from the abrrel. A hoppy red. Not a bad one.
