The biggest of stouts, Russian Imperials were born out of the cold north and the Russian court’s desire for rich, dark brews. Ours is a deep, multilayered one. Aged in brandy barrels for six months on cherries, vanilla and cacao nibs, a smooth body carries immense flavors of coffee, chocolate, cherries and barrel-aged complexity.

keithsheath (2) - Washington, USA - FEB 20, 2013
Pours an oily black with a finger of caramel colored head. Aroma is rich with dark fruit amidst chocolate and a subtle twist of brandy oak to round it out. Taste is more of the same, with a strong presence at the beginning from the cherries, which mellows out into chocolate, vanilla, oak, and brandy. Palate is surprising light for such a monster of a beer, but I enjoyed the smoothness to balance such an intense beer. Overall this beer was incredibly unique and enjoyable and I look forward to enjoying another bottle a year from now.

Gerbeer (3758) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 11, 2016
650 ml bottle. Pours blak with short dark tan head. Aromas of dark candi sugar, sweet coffee, vanilla, light liqueur and sweet roasted malts. Flavors of sweet molasses, dark fruity chocolate, black acidic coffee, and smooth roasted malts. Hot...

Bomber from Tavour. Nose is dark chocolate, cherries, and a nip of brandy. Black with a medium height, dark cinnamon tan head. Flavor is moderately sweet, chocolaty, brandy, and a bit of warmth from the alcohol. Excellent stuff!

cobaink2 (695) - seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 27, 2016
Vintage 2013. Nose of this is off the charts. Lots of figs, raisens and dark fruits. it has stood the test of time well. Love it.

Capa (3304) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - DEC 14, 2015
Thick, black pour with a dark beige head. Aroma is full of toasty malt, molasses, chocolate, booze, and light vanilla. Full, smooth mouth. Flavor chocolate, molasses, vanilla, light coffee, booze. The heat of the booze really lasts. A solid imperial stout full of booze and sweet molasses.

Bottle. Dark brown color with a smallish tan head. Nose is heavy roast and something sour… it doesn’t get any better with the taste. Something in the barrel didn’t jive right. Sour and almost burnt. Grainy and boozy.

monk191 (1999) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 20, 2015
A very interesting, thick stout. Pours a beautiful ridiculously thick black with a brown head. Smells of brandy, cherries, lychee and cream. Taste is complex, but does not transition as smoothly as it could. Starts with brandy, but not booziness. Then moves to vanilla and caramel, and finally a good amount of tart cherry. Warming alcohol in the finish. Had in the bottle.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2015 2014 edition. Poured from a bomber into a chalice on 05.05.15. A: Vanilla, brandy, and burnt sugar. A: 1 finger tan head that recedes to a milky layer of foam. Midnight black body with no red in the glass. T: Subtle brandy with a tart edge dominates. Very slight vanilla, cocoa, woodiness on the back end, and nuttiness are even more subtle. P: Watery for 12% ABV. It?s smooth, though. O: The flavors were too muted for this to be enjoyable. Overall 2.7. EDIT 12.07.15. Bomber dated 02.04.15. Milk chocolate, cocoa, light vanilla, cherry, brown sugar, and a slight woodiness all mix together very well now. The alcohol is nicely hidden. The mouthfeel is syrupy and light to medium weight. I drain poured the 2014 edition, but the 2015 is so much better.

hopscotch (11113) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 7, 2015
Bottle... Pours dark brown (nearly black) with a small, creamy, beige head. The flavor is quite bold and rich, boosting fudge, brownie brittle and black chocolate. Full-bodied and silky with tingly carbonation. The flavor is well-balanced and roasty with a nuance of toasted nuts. Very smooth. No rough edges. Finishes seared, but mellow. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

BuckeyeBoy (7748) - Boise, Idaho, USA - APR 11, 2015
22oz bottle pours out a dark brown topped with a small tan head. Nose is roast some odd smell. Taste is dark roast and a odd wine barrel sickness almost on the end. Pass.

deyholla (11628) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 1, 2015
UPDATED: APR 3, 2015 Bottle thanks to Lizzie! Pours black with a creamy tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of brandy and vanilla with a bit of cherry, dark grains and some toffee. Flavor has tons of brandy and butterscotch with some cherry and a bit of biscuit as well as bitter chocolate. A bit off.
