The 13th release in our 15 beers series was brewed in 1999. We found a shilling sitting on the counter of our homebrew supply store one day and had no idea how it got there. We joked around that it was a sign to brew a Scottish Ale because the strength of them are based on shillings. We soon came to realize we were meant to brew our version to be "one" more than the traditional 90 shilling

Bottle. Light cinnamon, woody caramel malt aroma. Dark brown with small head. Mildly sweet caramel malt and light peaty flavor. Tangy finish. Light but pretty good.

Bottle, shared with Ian. Deep red amber, light golden head. Sweet bready caramel aroma. Flavours of breadcrusts, barley candy, raisins; sherry-like, sweet. Quite nice.

Strykzone (7723) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JAN 23, 2013
Sampled at an esbls. Red brown and dark in hue. A decent tan head. This has Dcottosh notes. Rich malts. They are dry. Light fruit. Decent.

Aroma is fruit/berries and malts. The flavor is mildly sweet malts, berries/raspberries and a bready/smoothish finish.

Patrickctenchi (6750) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - DEC 12, 2012
Pours deep brown with red backlights....fluffy, off-white head.
Scent is earth, malt, caramel.
Taste is a toasted, burnt malt, light smoke.
Cola-like body and tingle.
Slight herbal bitter.
A very nice beer.

BBB63 (6567) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Bottle and in Imperial pint glass: Mahogany hue with a fading fizzy head and some spotty lace. The aroma has a soapy note which is off-putting along with plenty of crystal and bready malts, some earthy yeast esters along with a bit of grassy noble hops. The taste again displays an off character of old wet bagged malts along with some apple and pear fruitiness, earthy tones, some smoke and light herbal hop bitterness. Pretty bland and needs more body and forceful malt notes IMO. The Old 1713 Scottish Ale was so much better than this.

22oz bottle 10/19/12 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-43° in English Pint- Beer pours dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma of roasted amlt, caramel, toffee, pine, and hops. Taste of malt, caramel, toffee, and hops. This light to medium bodied brew is well balanced and goes down quite easy. Nice job.

Bottle. Peaty caramel malt and light spicy aroma. Chestnut with a moderate beige head. Caramel malt and woody spicy flavor. Light body and carbonation.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2016 Slightly slippery feel in the mouth. A tiny bit of smokey peat. Something strange with the bitterness in the last drink from the glass, a little burnt. Other than that decent stuff. Serving: Bottle

Purchased at Binny’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a Thursday night prior to leaving the country for two weeks. Appearance is a very dark, cola like brown, slightly clear, with a rich but creamy off white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is pretty faint, mostly malty, bit of caramel, but mostly smells crisp. Taste has a light bitterness and a malty finish, tastes like a ’session’ ale, not bad stuff but nothing exceptional. One of the lower ones of this 15 part Two Bros series.
